this is on a 2000 stang,v6,auto (my wife`s car! 40,000 miles). this lite came on so i had our local mechanic check it,since it was due for oil & filter change. on his machine,it came up as 1 of the oxygen sensors. replaced sensor, lite comes back on 2 days later. have him check it again, machine says everything ok. he asks the local ford dealer for advice, they wont help. i dont want to take it to this dealer as they have changed ownership, changed personnel. any suggestions? thanks.------------------ 34 coupe powered by 351 c 4v keith

Keith, This maybe a real simple answer/question but is there another Ford or LM dealer nearby you feel comfortable with?

not close enough. looks like that is what i`ll end up doing, taking it over 50 miles out of my way to have it serviced. aah, the joys of electronic controls on cars. i`d really prefer it like it was in the 60`s. it either worked or it let you SIT!!!! ------------------ 34 coupe powered by 351 c 4v keith

my sister owns a 01 V6 mustang with 20k miles and about 2 weeks ago the service engine light came up, we took it to the mechanic and the code said that its EGR needed replacing. Hopefully we can take the car to the Ford dealership and they can change it while it is still udner warranty.[This message has been edited by 69stanger (edited 11-28-2003).]

Speaking as a Ford Tech, I highly suggest you take your late model vehicles to dealerships, wether you drive a Ford, a GM, or BMW. That 00' LX sounds like too many cars i've seen in the past. Independent shops get ahold of it, get an O2 code and they automatically replace to O2 sensor. It dosen't work like that. Something is causing that O2 to show a lean/rich reading. If you want your vehicle fixed right the first time, take it to a Ford Dealer, even if you have to drive 100 miles.

I agree with the last poster. These Jiffy Lubes and Firestone dealers are not equipped to accurately diagnose many of these drivability problems. I've seen many come to us AFTER they got screwed by these guys.------------------ Sub Stanger/1990 LX 5.0 convertible (AOD to T5 conversion....completed)& the meat in the famous "SUB SAMMICH"! As I understand it, once an idiot light comes on, the code is stored in the EEPROM, and a dealer/code reader should still be able to pull the code that was there even if it isn't currently present. You could still get them to pull that code an perhaps find out what WAS wrong.'course, you could also just wait and see if it pops up again!

Have you changed it yet? Ray may be able to get you a good price. He gets me stuff for about half of what my Ford dealer charges.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip
