I have read that these early cammers are really lacking in bottom end torque, but are overall solid performers. I have done some reading on them and I just want to hear your opinions on its performance. The engines are hand built so it should be a quality reliable engine right? They just seem really cool to me... the introduction of the 4 cam motor to the mustang.

I don't have much of a technical opinion here to lend...though 305 horses out of a 4.6 when GTs were only putting out 215 isn't too shabby.

If I were to get one though, it'd have to be either a '96 Cobra in Mystic, or a '98 Cobra in Bright Atlantic Blue (even more rare than the Mystic).

I have a 97 GT and a friend of mine has a 97 Cobra. The difference is unreal! Both have great torque, but the Cobra is just awesome out of the hole.

cool guys

Anyone else have any opinions on them, or even a good website about them.

Its just they seem to be at a relatively good price and they may be a daily driver option in a couple of years.

I have a 98 cobra, and I love it! I have a few mods as you can see, and they have quite a few bolt ons they respond to really well. They are a little weak on the low end torque, but they also rev to 6800 which is musical. One of the best mods to help them is to go with 4.10 or 4.30 gears, which I havent done. My friend had one with 4.10's and it pulled pretty hard. The 99+ got a little more power, but I still love the look of the 96-98's. If you want a lot of info on them ,visit www.svtperformance.com

I am close to finishing my 67 fb big block and just bought a 97 Cobra Convertible. I found a motivated seller that had put a 15 lb boost supercharger, custom chip, spark booster, power tube, 4.10's, Steeda suspension, lowering kit, sub frame connectors, 17" Cobra wheels with Nitto 555's, etc. and I got it for $10k. This is the fastest car I have ever driven, when the boost kicks in over 4,000 rpm it is an unbelievable blast. It starts every time, can be taken on a trip and is really a great car. I too liked the pre-99 body style. One problem, the 315 Nittos keep losing their tread quickly. (I know why)
