I just became the owner of a 97 Mustang GT Convertible. What type transmission and rear end are in these? I've been dealing with classic Mustangs for many years, but this is my first SN95 (didn't even know that was the body series until today).

I didn't find specs (yet) on the '97, but I did find some on the '96. I think they are the same. The manual transmission is the T-45 5-speed which is supposed to be a beefed up version of the T-56 (Borg & Warner). The automatic transmission is the AODE.

The rear gear ratio for the GT is supposedly a 2.73 for the GT, although that seems a bit low to me. Here's where I got the data:

Thanks. I agree, 2.73 doesn't sound quite right. It's a 5 speed.

Cobras supposedly had 3.27's. Can't seem to find much more than that.

Thanks for the info. I'm really surprised that I can't find much information on the car. I've ordered a factory shop manual. Maybe it will give some more info.
