2000 GT
Mine squeaks. I commute 40 miles each way and it squeaks/squeals when it's plenty warm.
I've had it replaced when I could convince the shop that it was rattley/shot.

What's the deal? It's already squealing after about 3000 miles?

Question:
Take it back to the shop, which is a crappy dealer shop, complain to Ford, take it somewhere who will really fix it, or what?

Obviously, the permanently lubricated -or whatever- bearing is not an option.

Sounds like you got a crappy throwout bearing. Some garages just love the markup of cheapo parts. One of my former employers loved them.

It was the dealer that replaced it, supposedly with the Ford part? Is there a better part? (Heh, well, I hope there is, since this'un ain't working.)

my tob is going out again. i had it replaced late last year/early this year (cant remember), covered under warranty & only paid a deductable. little by little i can hear it again weather it be when i start it in the morning or when its warmed up.

im wondering if i should take it back again to get it replaced.

I hear mine when the car is hot. My new TO bearing is only about 3,000 miles old.
I got the old one fixed but it was about $300, and now the new one sux as bad as the old one.

I am not sure on later models, but the FOX Mustang had the problem of a aluminum input shaft retainer being used and the constant rubbing (sliding) of the throwout bearing on it caused it to wear and throw aluminum dust into the bearing assembly effectively reducing its' life.

I thought FORD had gone to an assembly steel bearing retainer, but maybe not. It warrants a check. The aluminum retainer once worn would also cause the throwout bearing to bind/stick also.

Seems to me a TOB should last longer than a set of tires (which are older than the TOB and are still fine)?

I don't abuse my clutch in any way I know of. If I am going to be stopped for more than a few seconds I put it in neutral and let the clutch out, as I assume pushing in the clutch causes wear on the TOB.

I go out of my way to make everything easy on my tranny, clutch, brakes, engine, etc. OK sometimes I will ramp up to 5000 rpm, but I never jam the gears (speed-shift, or whatrever).

The TOB has never been right since the car was new. At about 3000 miles the clutch pedal started rattling on decel.

What do I do? I have documented this here and with Ford. Do I seek consumer advocacy? This is BS, as I love the car but this problem is a constant PITA. It has been a PITA for 60,000 miles.

I wouldn't buy a chebby, but I'll never buy another manual tranny Ford. This SUX.

Much as I hate it, I may have to put a lawyer on this if I can't find any other way.

Bring it back to Ford, and if you don't get satisfaction, ask to talk to a zone rep.
