I have a 1997 Mustang GT. My airbag light came on the other day while driving and the same time the turn signals stopped working, the ABS light never comes on anymore, like the key on check. Is there one component related to the airbag, turn signals, and ABS light?

The first thing I would check would be for a common fuse. If you have the owners manual, is lists all the circuits on each fuse. Check to see if one of them has all of those circuits on it, and if so, I'd bet that was the problem. If you don't have the owners manual, I will try to go look in mine for you later (I also have a 97).Scott

I'll echo Scott's thought on the simple stuff first...have the fuses been checked?------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good" '76 Cobra--project

Yes, it was the first thing I checked. All fuses are good.

Actually the turn signals light up when I put my foot on the brake and move the lever to one peticular spot, but they won't blink. All bulbs work. The turn signal flasher is a ford only part so I will replace that when I get a chance to go by ford. But it seems hard to believe that a bad flasher would cause all this other stuff.

Try a jumper wire to ground, or root around with a continuity gauge. What they all have in common is ground.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com

I'm betting it's a ground too. My Escort was doing funny things until I found a ground wire that had come loose on one of my tail lights

I found the problem. It was a bad fuse, not blown, it didn't look blown but as a last resort I took a test light to each fuse. The turn signal fuse was bad. I replaced it, now the airbag light stays off and of course the turn signals work.

Great, glad to hear it was something simple. Tracing a faulty ground can be a headache to say the least.Scott

Well the fuse blew out today. In trial and error (with no tools) I have figured out that when I put it in reverse the fuse blows. So the fuse blows in reverse, the airbag light comes on and it loses the turn signals and reverse lights, I guess i have some wire tracing to do.

Well it was the reverse light switch in the transmission. I unplugged the connector, replaced the fuse and tested everything. It all worked (except for the reverse lights). Then I put it in reverse and plugged the connector back in and the fuse blew. I guess I'll buy a switch and it'll be all set.

It may not be the switch. Since you aren't turning the lights on, there may be a wire that is shorting to ground on that part of the circuit. I wouldn't condemn the switch just yet, especially if it is expensive.Scott

You're right Scott, I'll have to check that but i have a feeling I'll be driving with no reverse lights for a while.
