Question about my 97 GT stang. I bought factory 17" rims for it on ebay to replace the factory 16" rims. The new rims came with tires with about 60% remaining tread. My old tires were shot. My fault, ran them low and wore to the cord. New tires are mounted, balanced and had it Thrust aligned. New tires are evenly worn. Still wanders to the right. Took it back and they rotated tires, front to back (they're unidirectional). Did a brake test, they pull evenly. Alignment rechecked, all seems okay. Did a test to check if rear lines up with front and that also checks out. Damn thing still wanders to the right?Ideas? It's annoying me! (The new rims are gorgeous, what a difference in appearance for my Sugarplum!) J. [This message has been edited by 66HIPO&more (edited 04-01-2003).]

How about brake drag? A non-fully-retracting caliper will give you a pull to that side.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com

Thanks guys. All you mention has been check out. Nadda! Car is as straight as day it came from Ford, rims are straight. They were balanced before mounting on the car. The Goodyear dealer I took the car to is a friend, I trust his judgement. He said the tires aren't worn unevenly even though they are used. Brake test I mentioned, showed no caliper drag.Still J.

Then it points back to the alignment. Did it do this before the alignment?------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com

J shot in the dark here, but are they Cobra rims..if so ask your tire man if there's a different alin spec for them...I have remebering a conversation with a buddy who owns a Cobra and had a problem with "drifting" after an aligment.sam BTW I was seaching for some align spec and came across this page..worth a look. http://www.miracerros.com/mustang/t_suspension.htm

i don't think that it's anything to really worry about. i have cobra r rims on my 95 mustang and it wonders a little bit too. i don't drive mine enough to care, but when it did get aligned the guy said everything was perfect and couldn't figure it out. oh well guess there isn't always an answer to a question.

i used to run a lazer aligner daily and yes thetype of rim and tire will make a diff and tire pressure will make them wander too just make sure the press is equal in the front and put a little more caster in the right side it should stop the wander------------------ Josh 67 coupe with 351c 8.41 in the 1/8 1.90 60' at 82.03 mph 94 Explorer 30 model A currently rustbucket in process 67 convt with efi 5.0 and t5

Most roads aren't level. They are crowned to promote drainage when wet. My 1966 truck drifts to the right in the right lane and drifts to the left in the left lane due to the crown in the road. I drive down the middle of the road.Tracy

Sounds like a tire problem to me. You either have tires with uneven air pressure, or a bad tire. This is all assuming of course, that they set your alignment correctly. Additionally, camber, or large caster differences can also cause a pull.------------------ -FISHTAIL 92GT "The Ghetto Sled" (less ghetto with new paint) CMSC major @ University of MD college park Best ET/MPH thus far: 14.40/100.67mph....damn wheel spin. I had tires on my '93 that were used when I first got it. Made a hell of a racket when braking. Sounded like the rotors were out of round or something. I hunted and hunted, and finally replaced the tires. Bingo!Used tires are just that. Jeez Joyce, you only have like 7200 other tires around that place of yours! Put the old ones back on and see if it still does it. That'd rule out the brakes/alignment etc. Then you know it's either the rims or the tires.
