OK guys, I am considering buying a new 1993 Mustang. I want a performance model. I understand there are options such as the Mach 1 high performance and others. Has anyone heard of the S281E Saleen with the berylium paint? And if so, where can I get more info on this nodel?

If you want a 2003 Mach I, you'd better get to it pretty quick. They are only making 6500 of them, and most of them have already been spoken for. There are a few popping up on dealer lots now, but they won't be there for long!! BTW, there is no word from Ford that they will offer the Mach for 2004. ------------------ Cheers, Ian M&M Member #395 ------------------- '79 Mustang Indy 500 Pace Car Ian's Pace Car Website Vancouver Island Mustang Association Website Indy Pace Car Registry of Mustangs Official Website "A friend will bail you out of jail after you do something stupid... a real friend will be sitting beside you saying 'That was SO COOL!!'".

Somehow can't believe that Ford Motor Co., wh*res that they are, where a buck is concerned, would stop at 6500, if the demand warranted 12,500! Business is business!

The Mach 1 is supposed to be a one year deal. For 2004, the feature car is supposed to be the Boss 302.

Considering they've already advertised that only 6500 units will be built, they would get into a whole heap of trouble with the FTC if they built more. Besides, they already went this same route last year when demand outstripped supply for the 6500 "Bullitt" cars and Ford didn't make any more of those. ------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

Mach I will go the way of the Cobra..one at every stop light..Ford won't give up the sales in its time of need. The Saleen 281E seems a bit overpriced even for a Saleen. Maybe it's our Area (SoEVa) but Cobra,Bullits,Saleens and Classic Mustangs are everywhere..nothing to see several of each in a 30 min drive.

Is the Mach 1 still a 1-year only deal? I read somewhere else on the 'net(can't remember where)that Ford has plans to offer around 6,500 of them in 2004 also, and push back the 'heritage' version of the Boss 302 ( or is it a Boss 4.6?)until 95'. I think it was on the Ford Mach 1 site in the forums.------------------

mach 1 is a pretty boy car with no balls. I'm not trying to insult any owners, All mustangs are great but the price tag is close enough to a cobra to make you think...

I paid 33,000 for my 03 cobra. I,m just saying that there are deals out there on new cars. I was wrong to say the Mach 1 has no balls but the extra horsepower for just a little bit of money makes sense. It just isn't smart for me to own a Mach 1 when any newer stock z-28 can eat your lunch. Everything is not about speed, but the Mach 1 looks really really fast, even more so than the cobra. It should go as fast as it looks(in a perfect world). No insult attended. All fords are ok in my book.

Last time I checked the Mach 1 was good for 13's from the factory. They are faster than the best time achieved by a stock 428 Cobra Jet Mach 1 (According to Mustangs and Fords). I'd say this Ford is a little more than OK. And they're collector cars that will hold their value better than the Cobras will. I also like the naturally aspirated factor. In fact wouldn't the Cobra be less than ideal for drag racing due to the weaker IRS as opposed to the solid rear axle. All I'm trying to say is, after test driving both (more like a 10 minute joyride) it would be a tough decision between the two- very different and both appealing cars. Paul
