You could have the fun in various ways while the poor victim is working on those back head bolts. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Be sure to remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, and Osborn Reproductions.

Do you know if that thing uses the head bolts that you have to replace? {what do they call those, 'Torque to yield' bolts?}------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Be sure to remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, and Osborn Reproductions.

Steve,I don't know about that?!? I'll check with my mechanic buddy in the morning. The fuel injection was fun to get around, I left the fuel rail w/injectors intact "hovering" above the short block. Should be easier than dealing with the hi-pressure fittings. SteveW

Steve, since you will now be considered proficient in V-6 head gasket replacement, please hop on a plane, fly to Kentucky and change the ones in my Explorer The good thing now is I own a #55 Torq head socket.Mike

Mike,I'd be glad to, just send the ticket. It's about time that this forum had some mechanics in it. These cars are just getting out of warranty and soon it'll be like the classic forum with people doing their own work. FWIW I'm not impressed with this generation of Mustangs. But if you need tips on repairs I'll be here to give you "tips". SteveW

Yes they are Steve, thanks for the tip. The torque sequence is weird. Torque them all then loosen one at a time, retorque to 200+- inch pounds then tighten 1/4 turn. It's a half turn for the newer ones. Anyway the heads are off and the gaskets were bad. Heads look straight though, so I'll have to wait for the new bolts and hope for the best. Any tips for sealing the new gasket better? Hope I remember where everything goes when I get back to it. SteveW [This message has been edited by steve'66 (edited 12-07-2002).]

I think as long as you use a good quality gasket, you shouldn't have to do it again. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Be sure to remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, and Osborn Reproductions.
