I think that's what it's called...a funnel shaped doo dad in the fender well leading to the air filter box.
I read it is restrictive, and removal can add a few ponies..
Anybody done this...is it easy..
thanks:

I can not speak for the 02, but I did do it on my 94. I then put it back on.... The problem is, yes it does restrict the airflow a little, very little, but it also makes it so you do not intake the HOT engine air. Cold air=better running....

Eddie, I think hotstang is right if you remove the air silencer then you will be taking in all the hot air of the engine compartment, and from what I hear the Mod motor does not like the heat. some people are taking the lilencer and just cuttin off the part that actually goes into the fender in oder to relieve some restriction but to keep the hot air away. I had taken mine off my 01 when I changed to a K&N I noticed the sound difference but not any real seat of the pants difference.

Thanks guys...I'LL LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE...FUNNY..Joe,,
The article I read, the writer said he "Heard" the air flowing in....
But I thought the incoming air was protected from engine heat, since it's between the front fender and the engine compartment "Wall".....

I also heard the air coming in to the filter but I think it was because the houseing would muffle that sound. To remove the silencer isn't very hard. I believe it is 1 small screw that hold it and then you just have to kind of wrestle it to get it off. If I were you I would try it this weekend and drive it around for a while you might like it. I put mine back on because I had to go back to the dealer and I didn't want any BS other wise it might still be off. You will diffinatly hear a difeerent sound, you just might like it.
keep me posted.

Thanks Joe....will do....but I was away this weekend......
Do you still think on the newer stangs it will take in HOT engine air....
That I don't want obviously.....
I hear you with that dealer BS......I was afraid to take his name off the trunk lid.....
And by the way...was the "SOUND" cool or annoying ????
Just wondering...

I like the sound that the K&N gives out. I have the whole set up on my truck, but only the filter on the 01. I think if you are a car nut like most on these sight than you will appreciate it. Others may ask you what it is when they ride in your car.
