Do all the after market "Chips" for a bone stock '02 4.6 only "Kick In" at full throttle?? I've been told that and read it on one chip manufacturer literature.... Talking about a manual tranny, since I know the autos change shift patterns. Do any give you some power thru the RPM's without losing emissions passing and/or performance ? Or are they all only in at WOT ? While I'm at it.....on the '02 I added a Steeda Tri Ax shifter (GREAT !!!! 1000% difference), Steeda lowering (Sport) springs...(Great...a very cool stance), Flowmaster (Delta Flow) 3 chamber muffs (Great...quiet, yet that subtle throaty note) and a K&N air filter..... Fuel MPG right now...believe it or not has increased 10 to 15 %. Would anyone suggest a shock tower brace...even if I don't plan to race the car ???? And/Or sub frame connectors...to tighten that uni body flex ???? By the way.....added a very cool painted "C" stripe (black).....tapered black Cowl stripe and black embossed MUSTANG letters on rear facia....I'll update my pics as soon as this %^$# snow melts.....trying to get a "Retro" look out of the new Pony..the scoop and torque thrust wheels shout 60's muscle.... I am running a JMS chip. It increases the timing across the board. Each chip they burn is a custom for the customer. They remapped my fuel curve since I added headers.Sub-frame connectors make a huge difference on handling, but they do make the car ride rougher. You would be amazed how much of the suspension is actually the body twisting. The SN95+ cars are much more solid than the fox body and older, but still flex quite a bit. A good horse-power boost that is legal and will make the car sound deeper is a quality hi-flow h-pipe or x-pipe w/cats. I like BBK myself. Heard bad things about Bassani cats, so you might want to stay away from them. Since you've increased your gas mileage by 15%, you need to get some 3.73 gears to get it back down where it is supposed to be. ------------------ Boss 302 & Saleen S281

Thanks Randy....gonna search for JMS website... Plus your other advice really helped..... How about the shock tower brace ?????? And I see where Steeda's sub frame connectors are weld on, where (I Think) BBK's are bolt on....any diff ????? By the way....looking at Gears...place up here shows $300 FMS gears plus labor (total). Good reputation speed shop.... Again, you've been a great help....with all good advice..... ------------------ EDDIE D Resto Mod '70 Sport Roof Arrest Me Red

jmsDefinately get weld on subframe connectors. Bolt on are OK if you bolt them on then drive to a local muffler shop and get them welded in. The strut tower brace is a great addition, but the subframe connectors make a much bigger difference. $300 is a great price for FMS gears installed. ------------------ Boss 302 & Saleen S281

10-15% fuel mileage increase just by adding the K&N filter and Flowmaster mufflers?! Whoa...that's ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good" '76 Cobra--project

Eddie, check out Maximum Motorsports for your suspension needs.Steeda has some good aftermarket stuff, but I lean towards MM for suspension stuff. And that's only because I can't afford Griggs Racing. MM has different packages too, so you don't have to go ala' cart when picking up different stuff for the car. I have their caster/camber plates. Really nice units with state of the art material and engineering. MM has a very good rep on the 'net for having very good customer service, having rugged, dependable products, and for not being too pricey. They are a bit more expensive when compared to some other company's, but they really have good products. It's all a matter of choice, but some of the Steeda stuff seemed a bit weak when I compared them to MM stuff. One last thing. Before you decide, call the service rep at Maximum Motorsports. Tell him what you have in mind and ask him for his opinion. Stewart

Thanks Stew.....will do......so far the only Steeda stuff I bought was the shifter and the sport springs, and am happy with both. But I will definitely check out Max Mot Sports...... I am looking at their (STEEDA'S) aluminum pedal set, since they say their accelerator pedal is curved....which the OEM rubber one is... The other pedal people don't mention this.------------------ EDDIE D Resto Mod '70 Sport Roof Arrest Me Red [This message has been edited by 70 Pony (edited 01-21-2002).]

If I could add something, the Diablo sport chip is the same way. It adds power across the band and is also costomized for the customers specifics. I have one on my 01, and I have had great success with it. I also had a Pro 5.0 power tower and replaced it with a Steeda Tri-Ax because the power tower was leaking from the seal at the base of the shifter and getting tranny fluid all over my shift boot. I love the new shifter! My first to second couldnt be faster with an automatic. I have a shifter, a Mac cold air kit, eibach drag springs, diablo sport chip, bassani off road, and a tnt force one o-ring fogger nozzle kit(75 shot). With these add-ons costing only about $1700, I dyno'ed at B&M racing in bosier city and put 320 hp. to the rear wheeles. I ran a 12.9 at Gillaim. Everything that I have mentioned has worked great on my car with the exception of the cold air kit which dosent do much without a throttlebody, except pull cold air instead of hot. Good luck with your cars. I hope to get my gears soon, and beon my way to the 11's(just dreamin).

Local shop uses both JMS and Diablo, but they say they prefer JMS. Supposedly Ford sued these chip makers, so they can only produce chips that modify WOT behavior. Even JMS. I am working with a local guy who has his own software/hardware setup. He supplies the hardware to connect your own laptop and the software to program your own chip. He is going to give me an initial tune for my Vortech and also train me to program it myself with my laptop. This is not a WOT program.

The shock tower brace is a great addition in my opinion. It tightens up the nose of the car tremendously, especially through turns, just watch yourself in high speed cornering, it does have a tendency to make the rear end want to kick out easier.
