Does anyone know what manual tranny is stock in the 2002 GT ? First I heard it was a beefed up T-5 called a T-45 (I think)and Randy told me it is a Tremec Tranny...not that I don't believe him...he knows a hell of a lot more than me...but I can't find a sight saying what it is... Thanks....------------------ EDDIE D Resto Mod '70 Sport Roof Arrest Me Red

I was of the understanding that the early 2001 Mustang GTs used the T-45, but a running change brought in the beefed up Tremec TR3650 (also being used in the '01 Cobra). This is the tranny that was used in all of the Bullitt GTs.------------------ Cheers, Ian M&M Member #395 ------------------- '79 Mustang Indy 500 Pace Car Ian's Pace Car Website Vancouver Island Mustang Association Website Indy Pace Car Registry of Mustangs Official Website "If you get to thinking you are someone of some importance and influence, just try ordering another persons dog around." - Author Unknown

It was my understanding that Ford changed over to the Tremec (which now owns Borg-Warner...the makers of the T-5 & T-45's) during the '01 run of GT's.I believe the Bullitt Mustangs got the Tremec's, and sometime during the production run of the 2001 GT's, Ford started using the Tremecs. Ray, could it be that your parts catalogue may not reflect that yet? Stewart

Actaully it should be the tremec t-45. Since tremec has bought out Borg warners transmission business you will probably see both names. I have not heard of the 3650 so I am unsure what that is. The t-45 is suppose to be a beefed up t-5, but the modular guys seem to blow them up even easier then the t-5.

Not to be argumentative or anything Ray, but I am certain that Ford switched over from the T-45 to the TR3650 between January and March of '01 in all V8 Mustangs (GT, Cobra and all Bullitts). The TR3650 equiped cars should have a tranny code of "K" on the door tag, while the earlier T-45 equiped cars would have a tanny code of "6". One way to identify the 3650 is by the drain plug on the bottom of the tranny (not the passengers side, as with the T-45). The 3650 is supposedly a version of Tremec's 3550 tranny, with an increased torque capacity over the T-45 (360 vs. 315), and better shifter mechanics. Also, the 3650 has a fully syncronized reverse gear, which eliminates having to put the shifter into a forward gear before putting it into reverse (if you try to go directly into reverse with the T-5 and T-45 non-syncro trannies it usually grinds pretty good).
