My neighbor three houses down has a new 2002 Stage 3 Roush convertible. Triple black with chrome rims. Very nice, and very fast!

The new Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine (issue on the stands right now) did a shoot out between the Stage 3 Roush and the supercharged S281 Saleen.

In quarter mile head-to-head race, the Roush edged the Saleen. When they put slicks on the Saleen (yet the Roush still ran with radials), the Saleen beat the Roush.

Roush
H/P: 360 @ 5250 rpm
Torque: 375 @ 3000 rpm
1/4 mile: 12.831 at 107.36
W/Slicks: not tested

Saleen
H/P: 365 @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 400 @ 3000 rpm
1/4 mile: 12.951 at 105.96
W/Slicks: 12.70

Have you seen the new Hot Rod issue? March 02
They have tested a Stage III and were very pleased. The one they got was a 2000 model with 28000 miles that has been around the block more than once. All they had to compare it to was there own project car. But interesting article.

The Stage I is a V6. The Stage II is a stock V8. The Stage III is the supercharged bad boy.

Actually, a stage 1 can be a v6 or v8 but is just an appearance package (banner, wing, ground effects, tool box, floor mats, 17" rims and lowering springs on the v6) with an exhaust. Stage 2 can also be a v6 or v8 with it being stage 1 plus a complete suspension system and a cold air intake on the v8. Better brakes are an option on both along with subframe connectors. Stage 3 is the works with the sc 4.6L (there are actually 3 different stage 3's you can get). They actually have a sport package too that is basically stage 1 without the spoiler, rims and lowering springs (the sport kit is like $3-4K). The dealer I have a job offer to be a tech at is a Roush dealer .

Oh btw, stage 3's werent produced til 2001 .
