My 2001 Cobra is getting around 20.5mpg. My lowest mpg has been 16.8, I'm just wondering what the rest of the SN95 drivers are averaging?------------------ joe 2001 SVT Cobra 68 GT Fastback 98 F-150 90 Escort GT (smokes the tires in all 5 gears, or just smokes through all gears)

Wow - That mileage sounds good for a Cobra! On my Plain-Jane '00 vert with the 3.8L 6 I only average 21-22 mpg around town (local stuff only, low mileage short trips) whenever I've bothered to check. Are you doing anything special to get that kind of mileage?------------------ Joe C. 2000 V6 Convertible

I get 16-17 mpg in town in my '01 Bullitt GT. My brother got about 26 mpg in his '01 Bullitt driving it from Houston to the East coast.------------------ JT '68 Coupe w/351W '01 Bullitt #3357, Dark Highland Green

I'm in the same boat as Joe. My '99 V6 coupe is getting about 20 mpg on city driving. It's about 275 miles between fill-ups (I fill up with 13.x gallons usually), give or take. And I've got the 17" GT wheels/tires on it. When I had the smaller 15" wheel/tire combo, I was getting about 10-15 miles per tank. But hey, it sure beats the 175 miles per tank my '77 V6 gets. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good" '76 Cobra--project

Yesterday I was off and took the Cobra out to do stuff all day. Filled up today and only got 15.9mpg, the problem is that when I do city driving I really like the sound of the shifts between 3500-4200rpm so it costs me milage. I don't do anything special when driving it but I ussually take it easy and shift early. The reasons I ask, is that a friend at work got a convertable for his wife and the can't get better than 13mpg with the 3.8 v6. His dealer gave him problems and couldn't fix the problem. He wasn't to happy when I told him about my milage. ------------------ joe 2001 SVT Cobra 68 GT Fastback 98 F-150 90 Escort GT (smokes the tires in all 5 gears, or just smokes through all gears)

With the exception of Sam apparently, everyone I've ever talked to with a 3.8 has complained about their mileage. 20-22 tops. Even my Mom's 95 T-bird. I averaged almost 26 on the trip to Reno in my 5.0 and that's about what LuAnn's Cobra gets on the highway as well.------------------ Dave 1993 5.0 LX convertible. The wife's 2000 GT with usually run 21-22 on the highway and 18-19 around town when she drives it. Nah, I'm thinking it's the fact that it's an underpowered engine. 150 hp from a V6? Gimme a break Ford!! There are little 4-cylinder rice burners that'll do that... Luckily, I've got one of the 190-horse V6s. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good" '76 Cobra--project

My Bullitt gets about 20 on the highway driving. Would probably be better if I 'eased' my way down those entry ramps. Somehow I always manage to be in 3rd when I get to traffic speeds. Around town probably in the 16-17 range...lots of corners and shifting Mike

Your friend needs to have somebody competent look at his car. A V6 needs to be real messed up to get only 13 mpg. The 2000 V6 I rented in Reno got about 24 mph. {Mostly highway} UNLESS your friend doesn't know how to figure out MPG. A woman I worked with used to brag that she got 'about 25 mpg' with her full size 4x4 Blazer. I told her no way, and I had her save the mileage and gas slips for a couple weeks and I showed her how to figure MPG. She was getting 11 mpg. She had been holding on to the Blazer because of it's 'great gas mileage.' When I stopped working there, she was looking to trade in. ------------------

Steve, My friend is a mechanic at UPS and he is currently suing the Ford dealership because they could not fix his car. They changed his rear gears and ran a bunch of tests but the car would not do any better, the computer said it was running rich or something and continued to compensate for that and may be the reason for the bad mpg. The Ford dealer insisted that there is nothing wrong and nothing that they could fix. Any way he has had the car back to the dealer more times than he can count and has the documintation to show for it. It would be really sad if all of us could not trust the dealer to fix our stangs right. He was really pissed when I told him I was getting 20mpg in the Cobra ------------------ joe 2001 SVT Cobra 68 GT Fastback 98 F-150 90 Escort GT (smokes the tires in all 5 gears, or just smokes through all gears) [This message has been edited by unklshu (edited 01-09-2002).]

My '96 V-6 gets 22 mpg using regular Chevron. The best ever was 28 on a trip to Ashville, but 22 is normal.

Latest update from my buddy and his bad gas v6......He and the Ford dealer settled. After changing the rear gears a number of times and running codes and chaning sensors Ford bought the car back. He now has a Toyota 4Runner. It must have just been a lemon.------------------ joe 2001 SVT Cobra 68 GT Fastback 98 F-150 90 Escort GT (smokes the tires in all 5 gears, or just smokes through all gears)
