Can someone help me with this? I'm installing Flowmasters on my '01 GT, but I'm not sure of the benefits/differences between the 2 and 3 chamber Flowmasters. I want good sound AND performance. Also, Would it hurt a "daily driver" to go with 3" instead of 2.5"? I;m concerned about losing torque with too bit of a pipe. Thanks for the help!

Flowmaster claims their mufflers enhance performance. But from what I've read on the 'net (you know what they say about info on the 'net) they're not significantly better than stock mufflers. With that said, I have yet to run into, meet, or talk with one person who chose Flowmasters because of performance. They chose them for the sound! Two chambers sound fantastic in my opinion. They have the 2K RPM drone that bother some people, normally because the drone occurs while at freeway speeds. The 3 chamber Flows are much more subdued and lack the drone. I have 2 chamber Flows with an offroad H-Pipe (straight pipes) on my Mustang (5.0), and 3 chamber Flows with cats on my Crown Vic (4.6L engine). I can't even hear the exhaust while in my Vic, but can't escape the sound while in the Mustang! As for the not having enough backpressure with the bigger pipes, someone with more knowledge than I can probably answer better than me, but I would guess you wouldn't be hurting your low end too much. Stewart PS - I meant to post this kind of response in your other thread when you first asked the question about Flowmasters, but somehow got too busy and forgot. Sorry 'bout that! I know the 4.6 engine is really responding well to exhaust upgrades. If you have the money I would go with a cat back system like Mac, Flowmaster or Borla(I think Borla is the most expensive not sure if it's worthit money wise IMHO). I have seen many GT's with the Mac system and they sound great and those people seem happy w/them. Keep asking around about pipe size, I'm sure a Mustang owner would be happy to answer your questions. Thanks for the replies! I've actually been looking at MAC too. However, the prices I found at Summit racing a great! $59.00 for Flowmasters, and $29.00 for a pair of starter Pipes! Thanks again, I'm learning fast through all of these posts.;-)

I have a 98 V6 Mustang with 2 Chamber Flowmasters and 2.5" exhaust and it sounds great I am not sure what it sounds like on a 4.6 but I am sure it would sound wonderful.------------------ Kurt Guldner Moline, IL 1998 V6 Saleen Mustang Underdrive Pulleys Dual Exhaust Flowmasters K&N Cold Air Intake Ported & Polished Upper Intake Lower Intake Saleen Front Fascia Cobra RR Hood (new) Sprint Performance Springs 2" Drop http://www.geocities.com/qctracker/cars.html

I had a noticeable gain in "seat of the pants" feel when I put the Flowmaster system on my '93. LuAnn's '96 Cobra has 2-chambers on it and that exhaust rocks!!! If you go here: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?s=44dedca917ac02ed3a0f7e288f9a9392&threadid=137960 they have compiled a bunch of sound files of different exhaust systems. Pretty cool.

although the flowmasters sound great, 2.5" and 3" pipes are meant for cars that have a power adder. I've learned that if you use these size types they will actually make your car worse than if it was stock.

Rats! I guess I better take the 2 1/2 inch systems off of both our cars.

whoa since you have them on two cars you dont have to take them off. If you just like the sound and arent looking for performance then you can keep them on. IF you got the 2 and a half inch pipes then it wont be as bad as the three inch.

Hey 6B, welcome to M&M. Dave's humor can be a little hard to discern if yer new here, but he was only kidding. A person doesn't have to have a power adder in order to realize the full potential of having 2 1/2" pipes on an 8 cylinder Mustang. Much like increasing the throttle body size (which moves the peak power higher up in the RPM band) it's smart to have an engine setup that takes advantage of those kinds of minor modifications, but if all ya have is a stock setup, then it aint all bad running with 2 1/2" pipes. Basically, 2 1/2" pipes aren't meant just for cars with a S/C, turbo, or nitrous. There are plenty of N/A guys with some basic bolt-ons (heads, intake, cam) taking advantage of 2 1/2" pipes! Drop by Sam's Place and introduce yourself! Sam's is our lounge...we kick back and shoot the bull over there. Pop in and say hello! Stewart
