I would really love to change my gears out soon, but one issue comes to mind. What I am concerned about are the shift points. On a manual car this is no problem, but with an auto, is there a problem? Is the tranny going to get all confused because it is set up for 3.23 gears and I am running 3.73's, or will it just shift at the set rpm no matter what? I am planning on getting a chip down the road, but if I need one at the time I switch to 3.73's, then I need to plan for that money wise. If this is the case, would it make sense to get the chip first, save for the gears, install the gears, and then have the chip reburned? Another quick question while I have your attention Will a shift kit change my shift points, or is a new or reburned chip the only thing that can do that. Is there no need for a shift kit if you get a good chip? Thanks again for answering all of my questions! I never get flamed at M&M, which is why I like it here!

The one thing I've always heard from those who get chips...

Wait till you have everything on your car that you want, then get the chip. This will maximize the chip's usefulness to all the components you've installed...and it'll save you money on having to get the thing reburned (which isn't cheap).

In the newer model cars, you will need to get a chip or speedo-calibrator when you change your gears. Otherwise your speedometer will not read correctly. Just don't ask me what year that started...

Electronic overdrive automatic transmissions require a chip to use 3.73 or steeper gears. The chip can calibrate the speedometer also. You will need a chip.
