Well it finally happened. The intake manifold on my '96 GT Convertable cracked last friday. Luckily it was fixed under the recall. Thus it didn't cost me anything to get fixed except a few hours of my time. Keep an eye on yours! The recall only lasts for 7 years from the date the vehicle began warranty coverage.

Sorry to hear about the manifold. Although isn't that a common problem with them? sounds like you are lucky it lasted that long. Now you can go get a 'real' intake. MORE POWER!!!! Mike

My 97 has just over 35,000 miles. I'm waiting, waiting, waiting for that manifold to go. I hear it's usually around 40,000 miles that they crack. If it doesn't should I still get it replaced before the seven years is up. Will they replace it even if it doesn't crack under the warranty?J.

Mine just rolled over 40k. So what you've been hearing is apparantly correct. The fix is actually a recall, so I suspect if you ask them to fix it they probably would. Don't know for sure. Anybody making an aftermarket intake for the 4.6? [This message has been edited by Moneypit (edited 09-24-2001).]

The Bullitt intake is different. The only other intakes I know of have blowers attached. Not a bad idea ------------------ -Charlie Ping 1970 Maverick Grabber [email protected] Daily Driver http://www.maverickgrabber.com

If you can get them to replace it before it cracks, I'd sure do that to prevent any possible engine damage. They won't replace it unless it cracks. It is not a recall, only a TSB.------------------ Randy Thornton Boss 302 & Saleen S281

That is what I thought too. But when I contacted the Ford Customer Service 800 number to gather some info before I called the dealer, the operator told me it was actually a recall. I'm not trying to start an arguement here, just passing on the info I received.

It is a recall, but only if the vehicle in question (it covers more than just Mustangs) has been assembled at a certain plant. When my Crown Vic's intake took a dump, they wouldn't cover it because it wasn't assembled at the "right" plant. I typed up and posted the print out I received from my dealer. I'll type it up and post it again if Steve doesn't have that post archived.
