I have a friend that just bought a new '01 GT and is considering putting a bra on it. I've never done that, and know nothing about them. She has heard rumors that they can actually do more damage scraping against the paint as not having one. Anyone have experience with these contraptions?!?! Any brand/vendor recommendations?

I always seem to fumble with the connectors myself.

Never use a car bra on a daily basis, only for long drives and such. That way it'll protect the paint, but it won't have an opportunity to haze the paint and the finish of the car.

Seriously, if you put a bra on your car and use it regularly, the long term effects will ruin the finish of your paint.

Ditto what Stewart said. I have a bra I got at my local Ford dealer for my '93. It fits like a glove and was actually reasonably priced. I use it whenever I make a long road trip (say, to Reno?) and it's saved my front end countless rock chips. HOWEVER, after a week of road work, the edges leave marks in the paint that require some work to get out. My advice: Get one. Use it for long trips. Leave it off for daily use.

LOL! Now why was I thinking of the Reno trip when I saw this post? Oh yeah, I remember why...it was because I remembered what kind of surprised look I had on my face when I saw one on your car!!

I have a Ford bra on my 96' GT. It stays on all the time. Every wash it comes off and the back gets cleaned. If I don't wax the whole car, I always wax the area the bra covers. No problems yet. I figure I'd rather deal with some hazing than chips.

Well after seeing what the 'protective white strips' did to my Bullitt's paint, I won't put a Bra on any of my vehicles. If they flap in the breeze, they will definitely mark up your paint.

I hate cars with bras on them. Bras are for girls, NOT cars. Well, not a manly car like a mustang anyways. Maybe a beetle. LOL!!
