Hey everyone, just picked up a 98 GT coupe with auto yesterday for $15,500.00 with only 7,000 miles. White with Grey leather interior. Very sweet for the price. Of course all my friends want to race me now. I am not too familiar with the AOD that it has. From a dead stop should I turn the overdrive off, and then start in low, then second and then third? Or should I just leave it in drive and punch it? Any advice? By the way, I love the car. Did some speed runs with it yesterday and had a great time. I have to get rid of my 66 coupe now, but having the GT makes it that much easier! Look forward to talking with all of you about speed stuff.

Congrats on the new GT. With an AOD/E, you will probably get better times by manually shifting the gears like you mentioned. If you want consistency like in bracket racing, just leave it in drive a punch it.You might want to ask this question over in the RACING FORUM as well. Those guys and grrls know all the tricks. ------------------ Mike M&M Member #9 2001 Bullitt #172 Dark Highland Green "Is that Black Charger following me?"

Just a word of advise tho. Don't manually switch your auto tranny too often, or you'll find yourself with an expensive rebuild in the near future. If you want real performance from the automatic, have a reputable shop install a higher stall torque converter for you. That'll allow you to take better advantage of the RPM's produced by your 4.6 engine. Stewart

I know Steve, there is no replacing the feel of an early Mustang. I would love to keep her, but the money I put into her I could be putting into the new stang. Besides, she needs a lot of work and I am probably better off just letting her go talk amongst yourselves!

Did anyone say 4.11 gears? That and a 99+ head swap, then you will definately need to strengthen that auto.

The AOD that's in there is the same one that everyone is modifying for the early stangs, correct? I could just do some mod's to the current one, correct?
