Hi there! I'm new to this kind of stuff even though I've been in computers for 25 years. I'm mostly a mainframe geek.

I have an '83 5.0 GT (w/t-tops) that I'm restoring. It belonged to my late son, James (19 years old when he passed away). There are some things that I'm still learning to do. Search for parts on the internet and things.

I'm working on fixing up the engine compartment.

When James got the car, the fella he bought it from had done some work on the car. But, the one thing he did wrong was ... he put a CW rotation fan on a CCW engine!!

I've found NOS parts for the fan and fan clutch and those fit just fine. Now I'm looking for a fan shroud.

Can anyone tell me what years will work on the '83? I went to a local wrecking yard and found one in an '82 and tried to install it. I think it had a differnt size engine so it causes the fan to hit the bottom of the shroud.

Also, can a person find the airfilter system somewhere for this car? I'd like to install one that looks original if possible.

Well, that's enough for now.

Thanks for the help in advance.

James would just have a fit if he knew the 'Old Man' was restoring his car. What fun!!!

I'm not much help as far as your questions, but I'd like to welcome you to M&M and your intentions are very admirable.

With all the cold air induction systems that go on these cars you would think that there would be a ton of original air boxs out there cheap, but they are actually hard to find.A 5.0 fan shroud is a 5.0 fan shroud as far as I know, could be the radiator support is bent or the car has taken a nose hit(Very likely) and its tweaked alittle. It takes very little force to bend these cars, while spinning the fan with the shroud on, put all your weight on the radiator support and spin the fan,bet it doesn't rub then

Hi Cliff, I`m sorta close by, about 1/2 hour across the Canada/US border up the I5. The 5.0 Mustangs from 1982-85 came with a dual snorkel cold air setup. The 82 was a 2 barrel carb, and the air cleaner was a smaller diameter, but I think that the 83-85`s were pretty much the same. I have 1 of these units on my 85 Mustang "Stocker", and also have a spare setup. I don`t know if you go to the drags at Pacific Raceway in Kent, or Bremerton Raceway, but if you do, I normally go to each track once or twice a year.

I bought one of the dual snorkel air cleaner assemblies off of ebay for a reasonable amount of money. Be sure the hoses are included as these cost about $85 each for new ones.

What color is your 83, mine is Canyon Red and is also a T-top GT 5.0 5spd. I am slowly fixing all the little things wrong with the car and was having a great time driving it until an electrical short fried my battery and I'm afraid the ignition system also.
