Can the warning chime (key in - door open) be disabled without causing problems? If so, how is it done?
I've owned this '89 LX Convertible for 16 years and I have finally reached my breaking point with the blasted chime!
Many thanks!

On the '79-'86 cars, it's located directly above the glove compartment door, under the dash. It can just be unplugged. I've never looked for it on the '87-up cars, but it's possible that they left it in the same place with the dash change, but I doubt it. Ford seems to change some things merely for the sake of change.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I checked above the glove box but it seems like Ford has relocated it (as you mentioned).
It sounds to me like the chime is somewhere under the dash on the drivers side, but there's so many wires and electrical components jammed up there that I can't find it.
Oh well!

(Sorry...we're kind of hijacking this post but...)

Mine works on my '91 but it's so quiet you have to have your head under the dash to hear it. I'd like to know where it is so I can make it work again.

The nice thing about it is that it also tells you when you leave your lights on.
