on the side of the throttle body is a idle adjustment screw start the car up and use a flat head screwdriver and turn it slowly til you reach the desired idle u want.

Forgive me for sounding like a smarta$$, but you DON'T adjust the idle on a '92 5.0. The computer sets the idle speed by way of the Idle Air Control Valve. The IACV is the cylindrical device on the front of your throttle body with an electrical plug on it.While there is a idle speed set screw, that's only for setting the idle in the case that the IACV fails. If the IACV is working properly, you will get a high idle on cold start, then it will drop to normal idle speed when the engine warms up. If the IACV is not working, try cleaning it with carb cleaner making sure the piston inside is free to move, or replace the unit. i IACV is working the idle does rise untill motor warms up and then drops to a way to low 500 rpm. i turned in the idle stop screw just a little so when it drops down it doesnt go past .800 rpm no the car idles perfect.

There's something wrong with the IACV or one of the sensors that tells the computer engine temp, etc. (Do you have any trouble codes?) The IACV should control the idle speed at all times. Try removing the IACV and give it a good cleaning with carb cleaner. When I first got my Fox the IACV was clogged with oil coming from the breather tube between the valve cover and the throttle body. This was because the PVC filter screen was completely clogged causing oil/crankcase vapors to back up into the throttle body and into the IACV. I have never touched that idle screw on my 5.0 or my 4.0 Explorer. ------------------ '73 Convertible, 351C 2V '91 LX Convertible 5.0 Member: Valley Forge Mustang Club "Tank, I need an exit."
