Please excuse my wanderance into the Fox body forum, but I need some help...

I know of someone that will be parting with her mustang shortly, and I was wondering how much I should expect it to go for.

It is a 1986 (I believe, don't quote me on that) Mustang Convert GLX with a 302 and an auto. Interior is OK to good, needs a new top, and starts almost everytime... Except today when she left her lights on...

She is supposed to get back to me with a price, but I haven't the foggiest what would be fair...

Fox bodies are all over the place in price depending on condition. Sounds like you need a top which is about 1K, some interior work etc. I believe the GLX was a 1983 Model year. The best way to get a ball park figure is check out 83-84 Verts on Ebay or Trader online to see what they are bringing in similar condition. Even if you find one a bunch nicer then you could deduct what you will have to spend to get it to that condition. Its really hard to say without seeing it. Who knows she may say 800 or something really low.

She was talking about trading it in, and I know she wouldn't get much for it then, that's for sure.

Is there anything specail about the GLX package?

I said don't quote me on that!!

I don't come to the Fox body realm, because I don't know much about Fox bodies.

Anyways, she wants to get about $2000 for it...

Last August I rescued a '91 LX 5.0 convertible from my neighbors for $2,000. Right off the bat I had to spend $1,500 (including a set of tires) to get everything working, get it running right and to get it to pass PA state emissions inspection. Since then I've probably spent another $1,000 to make it nice again, correct some shoddy body work, and improve the chassis stiffness.

I've seen these Fox Body ragtops sell for as much as $4,000 to $5,000 for mint condition, but without seeing this car, I think $2,000 may be a fair price to start with.

This was my first Fox, having been a first generation guy, but I have to say that I love my Fox. There is so much you can do with them which makes them a lot of fun.
