My 88 runs like a scalded dawg on a cold start but turns into import bait when it warms up any help or suggestions? Feels like a 30-40hp loss and loses throttle reponse too. Thanks!

Need more details on the symptoms. What do you mean by "runs like crap"? Is it missing, backfiring, idle rough....need more details!

Kind of flat poower wise no misses not much throttle response. This is after about 5-6 minutes of driving. When cold it runs great. Could it be o2 sensors or an EGR valve or controller?

Does it have any codes (DTC's)? What color is the smoke after it warms up? I've seen ECT sensors go bad and after vehicle goes into closed loop, bad ECT makes the computer think the coolant temp is still cold causing it to dump fuel.

Just runs like a dog, acts like timing is retarded Cold it will spin tires easily in 2nd gear. JUst starting to warm it is slow to accelerate?

A bad ECT could do this. The EEC is not reading the engine temp when it's warm. Is your CEL working? You should get a trouble code for the ECT.

Your cats probably aren't the problem.

ECT=Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. It's different from the temperature sender for the gauge. It tells the EEC which operating strategy to use, i.e. cold start, warm start, cold drive-away, etc.

This is similar to a problem that I had with my 88 Mustang Coupe (4 banger though) I had two cars so I changed every single sensor I had, removed the CatCon, compression checked, changed the injectors, plugs and even took it to another mechanic. I finally gave up. Actually I need to amend my first sentence. "Had" should read "have". I've been watching this thread for a while in hopes than someone could cure my problem too. I think I'm just going to start over again with a new built turbo 4 from a T Bird.

You need to run a scanner on your EEC and if the problem is consistant, it would have stored a code or more in the computers memory. without a code, it could be a number of things. A code will narrow the problem down.
