Headers and a GT 40 or similar intake will help a bunch.

Heads, man, heads.

Let's define how fast you want to go first. You just say slow. Slow means a lot of things to a lot of people. Just ask John Force!

How fast do you wanna go?

For a street car which it most likely is, as he states, he gets beat by other non modified 5.0s etc. His car cant breathe. On a budget which most people have to follow you cant just jump into a 2K dollar set of heads, when all said and done. My advice is get an Explorer intake and a good set of headers, X or H pipe. You will notice a big difference and not kill the pocket book, they still will flow good enough to where you can upgrade heads later. My 2 cents if its a street car on a budget.

....and the only problem with switching to an Exploder intake is there is no internal EGR passage....If EGR is not an issue, the Exploder intake works pretty well.

What year Explorer - Or better yet, does anyone have a casting number for it?

That's an EFI intake, right?

TIA,
Ryan

What kind of times have turned ?

My dads 88gt 5 spd with 85,000 org miles a BBK cold air, headers, complete exhaust system, and 3,55 gears no changes to the fuel system. He puts plenty of other 5.0's and chevy in his rear view. Before any of the mods he was turning high 14's stock.

Scoop,
Not sure who this is directed to. I cant run it at the track. I am definitely sub 14 seconds and its a Vert. My friend has a car that runs steady 13.9 in the 1/4 and I beat him all the time. I dont know if I want to put a roll bar in for a few occasional times at the track. I need my backseat as its a family cruiser LOL. Here are my mods.
Explorer intake
JBA Headers
Bassani O/R X pipe
Smog Delete
Timing Advanced
Short belt
2.95 first gear conversion
Pro 5.0 shifter
K member
H brace
3.73s
K&N
Full length SFCs
Rear end girdle
on stock E-7s and fuel system

Winter mods and fixes.
Heater core, alumiminum heads, bigger injectors and MAF,

The engine as described is Stock, king cobra clutch, quadrant and cable, bbk
adj.fuelpressure reg,
performance tune up,ford racing 9mm wires,
bbk 110 lph fuel pump and 110 amp powermaster altinater
will not make you go faster.

I know money doesn't grow on trees but the engine needs to breath to make HP..heads,headers,cam,a better fuel delivery system would go a long way to reaching your goals.

Check with you buddies or other Mustangers to see what they may have "laying on the shelf" in the garage, you never know, they just might have some parts at a good price.

Take out to the track see what it'll run, all they will do is kick you off. At least you can see what you run.
