How long should the average AOD last? When I mean average Im talking about being used behind a 5.0, stock or mild and driven regularly. I dont mean like a grandma and then again I dont mean like it was stolen either. Im looking to get one out of a T-bird that has a 5.0 and Im trying to find out how many miles it can put up with normal driving. Basically Im asking how many miles do you have on your AOD and how hard do you drive the car! ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55 [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 08-23-2004).]

It's a crapshoot. It's like asking how long a VCR will last. I've had some go 10 years, others I didn't get 10 months out of. The AOD that was in my car made it about 60k, and was driven by my wife's mother for 40k of the 60k. Others drove them like Tiger Woods and got 120k out of 'em. You just never know for sure.

You have me worried because a VCR doesnt last more than a year in my house between Barney, The wiggles and all the other videos my kids watch. I know that not all transmissions are not created equal. The C6 in my 68 fastback has 187k and it shifts like it was new. I heard about the TV cable adjustment from Steve so unless the PO didnt adjust it then the trans could be fried. Just trying to see how durable the trans is! Maybe I should just get it rebuilt since I might be getting it for close to nothing.

I was thinking of the AOD for the overdrive. I have a stock C4 but was thinking of upping the gears in the car and thats why I was thinking AOD.

Its only a stock 289 with a 4V carb but might upgrade to a slightly more powerful 302. Looking at 90 or newer on the trans ar maybe a TCI. [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 09-01-2004).]

It really depends on what year car the AOD came out of...I am hoping it is at least a 1989-up.... Let me know what it is out of...
