I wanted a convertible. It needed to be straight and a good runner. I also needed it to be streetable and be able to take on a trip if needed. So a highly modified car with a 4.56 gear ratio was out for a simple example. Another factor is will the car have to be emission tested. In NY they dont have emission testing so it made no difference to me if it had cats or not. So I ended up with the car I have now. A 92 Feature Convertible with some nice mods thats real quick on the street and I can drive it across the country if needed. If I lived in CA I definitely would have not bought my specific car. Be patient because there are a lot of them out there and you can still find some real nice ones. It basically depends what you want to spend.

Out of that lot. The Cobra for sure if it actually has 37K. Those are a nice collectible car.

What exactly are you going to do with the car? If your thinking of racing it then the coupe body is the only way to go. If you look to the 3dr you'll find some flex but nothing a ton of roll bar won't fix. As a GT option those side skirts are added weight as with the pwr window options.

As far as the vert, that's totally up to you. The vert is the heavest of all bodies. I'm kind of crazy when it comes to weight. My experience is with my 73 Mach1. Big 'ol heavy car 3420 with 466 power. I removed the stock front urathane bumper (100 lbs) and gained 1 tenth of a second and 3 Mph.

You'll find that the 4 cly Fox Hatch Mustang complete weighs 2700 lbs. So if you add V8 and not much more you have a light platform to begin with. Now if you add weight you can place the weight where you may need it most.

This is my ideas. Oh, I got mine Free from the wrecking yard.

Les

Awsome all 3 of those were sold a LONG time ago, good thing people dont remove their ads. I'm having the hardest time trying to find a 5.0 coupe 5 spd. any year between 79-93 as long as its got OK milage but im having a hard time finding 5.0's in general!

Just look on e-bay. You'll find one. I see 'em all of the time. I'd sell ya my wifes 88 GT Vert but she would kick my butt. I only paid $800 for that car. If your looking for a driver then I'd suggest searching Mustang clubs. Something like the 84 GT 350 would be nice. There was one year of Mustang (last year?) they offered black interior? There was also a last year for a sun roof option. Thoses cars will hold their $. Did you know that in 83 was the first re-offering of the convertable. Every car was hand built (not by Ford). I know a wercked one is at w/ a V6. It's a shame the owner didn't know.

Best of luck,
Les

While on the subject....what's better, to buy a 5.0 fox body that already has mods or buy one "stock", with no mods.
Also which are the years that these engines came with forged pistons..86-92????

Alex

Its all what you want it for. You can save by bying a modded car if that is the route you want to go. The 5.0 came with forged pistons up to 92 and in 93 they changed them to Hyperutectic.
