Stick shift or automatic? What year is the car?Generally speaking, the rearend (7.5") will hold up behind a stock 302/5.0 if you're nice to it. High RPM sticky tire launches will eventually do it in, though. An 8.8 would be preferable, though.
The same applies to the 4 cylinder T-5 5-speed transmissions, although they require a special pilot bushing to install the 4 cylinder T-5 behind the V8. Okay for a "driver" 302/5.0 if taken care of, but not the hot ticket for performance use.
Most of the other 4 cylinder transmissions (4-speed, C-3, AOD) would either be too weak, and/or require a fabricated adapter.
