I recently got a 1990 2.3l
It was running fine but about 2 days ago,,,
when you were just a hair off idle, it would chuck and buck violently. Now, all of a sudden.
It won't idle.
It just stalls.
It will run if you stay on the throtle, but it shakes like theres no tomorrow.
MAP okay..
TPS okay
ACT/IAT okay
EGR fine
Fuel, air etc fine.
Scanner reveals no codes.

any ideas? Has anyone come across this?

well, i found something out. If I disconnect the SPOUT connector, the problem goes away.
The ignition module tests fine.
I even changed ir to see what would happen.
If I reconnect the SPOUT while running, it stalls or runs like crap.
If I reconnect it and then start it again, problem is still there.
I'm worried it might be the computer. Thats the only thing between the module goes to is the computer correct?
any ideas now?

You need the emissions manual from the FORD Shop Manual for the year of the car for the complete dignostic routine.

It sounds like the timing advance signal is getting crossed up somewheres. How did you test the module? Stator OK?

well, anyway.
I figured it out.
It was just the distributor rotor.
That alignment tab had snapped off and the rotor slowly moved itself out to the point where it would only run with base timing.
I didn't notice it without taking the rotor off since you just look straight down at it.
