Hi, This is sightly off topic, but I am trying to learn about the differences between a Mustang and Crown Victoria ECU, wiring and AOD transmission. I have a donor 5.0 AOD Crown Vic that I want to use motor and trans in Ranger swap (and keep it FI). I have already read Kaufman's materials on the subject. However most references to 5.0 are about using Mustang components. What might be the drawbacks of using the 5.0 Crown Vic engine, tranny and electronic controls as opposed to the same year Mustang components? Thanks, Mike H

Thanks for reply Josh. Was starting to think that I would have to figure the whole picture out by myself for lack of reponses. Since I will put this 5.0 in a Ranger and need decent mileage (130 mile commute per day), I am quite willing to trade some performance for some mileage. Even totally stock and non-H.O.; it should still radically outperform 3.0 slug V6 the truck has now.. Do you know if the police version Crown Vic 5.0 is set up same as Mustang H.O., set up more like std non-H.O 5.0, or something in-between? Or if there are any performance upgrades over stock non-H.O. 5.0 that will not hurt mileage that I can incorporate while rebuilding this engine before install? I am contemplating using Kaufman's engine swap kit with headers made for this purpose so I can have dual exhaust and that should improve both mileage and performance. Your post also seems to indicate that engine differences are such that the Mustang engine wiring harness will not work on non-Mustang 5.0? Am I interpreting that right? Thanks, Mike H MN

I used an 87 T-Bird harness for the EFI conversion on my 67 F-100. These cars are SEFI and not batch fire. The firing order is different. I used the harness with Mustang components with a F-303 cam. If you have any questions, I can probably answer them. I just did a complete conversion less than two months ago! My 67 runs awesome with the GT Mustang SEFI! I don't see what the problem is between the two? The only differences I found tracing wires was the pin connectors if converting to mass air. I have an 82 ltd wagon, converted to 87 (entire harness headlight to taillights). My 93 cobra motor runs just fine. Just ask the riced out eclipse that lost to a grandpa's . Nerver mind I forgot that I used a 87 gt computer with my LTD.car! ------------------ john 74 351C-4v Pro street 93 5.0lx reef blue 85 f150 4x4 riding high 68 galaxie 500 convert 82 ltd wagon (cobra pwr) 64.6 stang resto [This message has been edited by jnjrausch (edited 12-27-2003).]
