Any one know of such an animal?? I need bolt in axil's for the 85 but, i have two sets of rims and their both 4 lug... So i am looking for a set of 4 lug 28 splined rear axil's that way i can do the C -clip eliminator are still keep my car 4 lug.. If an 8.8 can use a 9" rear axil maybe i can get one from a 8" old style Ford rear end??? Help????

Aren't the stock 8.8 axles in fox body cars 28 spline 4 lug units? If they are, you should be able to find pleny of them around.

Rene, if I remember correctly, you bought the Mustang Performance Handbook by William Mathis, yes? If so, turn to page 150 in the book. It addresses 8.8 improvements, 28 and 31 spline axles, and c-clip eliminators.

Stewart

PS - If i'm mistaken and you don't have the book, lemme know and I'll type up what they printed in the book.

Unless the SVO's had something different, then to my knowledge yeah, all stock 8.8's are 28 spline.

Moser makes these for a little over $200 IIRC. You will need to
measure what you have to order the proper parts.

Huh? C-clip eliminator is for drag racing only. You do not want
a C-clip eliminator if you are planning on pulling lateral g's.

All the ones I've seen have been custom made for the swap. Involves
a custom set of axles set up for 9" bearings and housing ends grafted
onto an 8.8" housing.

Ok, maybe i need to clarify this.. I think i confused a few people... The proper way to mount rear 11" + disc brakes is to insure that the axil stays put.. With C-clips the rear axil will walk in and out 1/4-3/8 of an inch causing fluctuation brake problems... So in a not shell i need to cut the ends of the housing off and weld on 9' bolt on bearing retainers.. Then use a 8" or 9" rear axil with press on axil bearings, but still retain a 4 lug pattern... I have and can use a std 28 splined 29'" 9" axil but it uses a 5 bolt pattern... A std 8.8 axil is 28.75 long and a SVO is 30.00 i can modify the housing to fit either by cutting more or less of the housing before i weld on the new ends .. I just need to find a 28 splined bolt up axil.....
