Does anyone know what to do when you can not get the codes to download to a scanner? My scanner says look in the service manuel under no codes for the problem but I am sorry to say I don't have a service man. on an 84 must. turbo car. The car has been sitting for 19 years and runs like the computer is bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have zero experience with a scanner, but I'll drop Charlie and Craig an email and see if they can pop in here. They're both tech's and might know the answer you're searching for.Stewart

Hmmm. Is it fuel injected? I don't know much about such an old system (hell we rarely get OBD-I cars anymore). If it is EEC-IV then it definitely should give you a code 11 if there are no codes. Check you wiring to the computer (from the scanner plug) for continuity. Also, check your computer grounds and power circuits. If it's EEC-III, it's possible if there are no codes it just gives you nothing. But that's just specualtion. ------------------ -Charlie Ping 1970 Maverick Grabber [email protected] with AC and overdrive. http://www.maverickgrabber.com

It is an EEC-IV and is fuel injected.Have checked wires and they are good. When checking with the scanner or analog volt meter the light or the meter comes on and stays on or the needle pegs and never gives any codes (flashes). Any more help or thoughts would be great. THANKS Stewart and Charlie. Rudy, You've definately got an EEC-IV system, but off the top of my head, I can't think of any reason why you can't pull codes, other than the fact that you've got a possible wiring problem into or from your DLC, or your processor is bad. I hate to say this, but it's possible that the aftermarket equipment you have to pull the codes is inadequate, and you may have to take it to a Ford dealer so they can hook up their NGS. It's also possible that your processor is so messed up that it's not communicating with the scan tool, but I wouldn't count on that until AFTER you have it checked out with the dealership. I'm not trying to make a "plug" for the local dealership, because if you lived by me, I'd do it for NOTHING!! Sometimes, us "mechanics" just want to get peoples cars FIXED!! What I'm saying is take it to a dealership, pay their "1 hour diag fee"......at least that will tell you what's wrong, whether it's the processor, or just simply a sensor, and get back to us. Think about it.....a 1984 SVO is probably worth spending an extra $80 on if they can tell you what is wrong?
