hey there call me dumb but what is "FOX" mustang and how did it get that name ?

 Welcome to M&M,good to see another B.C.er. Fox refers to the chasis platform 79 to 93 mustangs& capris also t-birds and fairmonts.
I'm sure someone else could answer with more details.

ahhh it all started when someone asked if the seats in my Cobra II were "FOX" seats and i didn't know what to say

Fox was just the design designation Ford used to name the chassis style for the '79-'93 Mustang/Capri.The '94-'03 are called Fox-4 or SN95. {Most of the time it's called the SN95}
The upcoming Mustang {'04?} will be called the S-197 or DEW chassis.

About two weeks ago I learned on some show (don't remember which one) on television that the fox designation comes from the marketing niche that Ford was going after. A European manufacturer (I think it was Audi) had a performance sedan named Fox and that was the target when Ford started on the design.
