Fox was just the design designation Ford used to name the chassis style for the '79-'93 Mustang/Capri.

The '94-'03 are called Fox-4 or SN95. {Most of the time it's called the SN95}
The upcoming Mustang {'04?} will be called the S-197 or DEW chassis.

About two weeks ago I learned on some show (don't remember which one) on television that the fox designation comes from the marketing niche that Ford was going after. A European manufacturer (I think it was Audi) had a performance sedan named Fox and that was the target when Ford started on the design.
