I need to replace the top on my conv. I was going to have it stitched, but all of the quotes I've gotten were around $300... to remove the top, restitch and then reinstall. I was also told that because the top is 12yrs old, it would probably rip a bit. In any case, what I'm planning on doing is just buying a new top. I've done a general pricing on tops with the glass curtains from Mustangs Unl and they are about $259. I've been quoted for $500 for the top and install from a local company. My dilema. Do I buy and replace myself? Do I try and find someone to stitch it up? I dont want to pay a ton of cash for labor if I dont have to... Is it easy? Any suggestions would be great. thanks, --mark ------------------ '66 Mustang Coupe '90 Mustang LX 5.0 Convertible '85 F150 XLT 302 '97 Ranger XLT extended cab '96 GMC Jimmy 4X4 (the wife's)

I was told by several people that if you havent done one before they are a pain in the a$$. Local upholstery shop here quoted me $300 w/o glass $400 w/glass installed. My car is a 90 LX. If you do decide to do it let me know how it goes, i was looking at mine and it also looks to me liike a real bitch!

I'm in the same boat, just picked up an '88 5.0 LX & will be needing some stop light shelter soon enuf. Just now figuring I'm gonna lose the current glass if I get the top & window with its fabric also. Place I looked online wants 174 top & 186 window, local shop wants 250 install. Is it a good Idea to replace pads as well? Also, is that Mustangs unlimited? Glad 2 find this board, gainin' a wealth of knowledge 'bout my new Ford. Thanx & Aloha, Bill

Welcome to M&M Bill!! Hopefully you will find a ton of more good info. I've been here for a few years and someone always has an answer for a ford question or problem.Yes, the $259 price is Mustangs Unlimited.. After some research on other products, I would tend to believe that products can be found cheaper than them, but I havent found anything yet. I think $250 to install is pretty reasonable as I havent found it much cheaper in my area. Regarding the pads, I'm not sure but since they are pretty cheap (about $25) it probably make's sense to do so. Another thing that I need to replace with the top is the plastic latches. I'm not sure exactly what they are called but its where the metal hook grabs at the corner of the windshield... mine are cracking... --mark ------------------ '66 Mustang Coupe '90 Mustang LX 5.0 Convertible '85 F150 XLT 302 '97 Ranger XLT extended cab '96 GMC Jimmy 4X4 (the wife's)
