I'm new to this forum. I read some of the posts and decided I wanted to sign up. I read a lot more than I type. That said, I have a 69 Coupe with a basic 2v 302 engine that I want to add some power to. I'm doing a Shelby de Mexico style with it. I need suggestions how to up the hp without spending a fortune on it. My being disabled makes me watch my $$$ closer. Any and all suggestions will truly be appreciated. Jerry

welcome jerry, sit down and stay a spell. i know exactly where cleveland is, i bought my ltd (dragon wagon) from a guy there. he lives back in the woods and builds dulcimers!! the first thing i would do is to get another intake and a 4 bbl carb. you can probably pick up a used intake and carb for $250-$350 in good shape. of course some lower rear gears would give you more seat of the pants feeling of power than most anything else. but that can get expensive unless you can do it yourself. there is a lot of free help around here and some great bargans on parts sometimes.------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-302-7.25 @93mph 1/8 1.54 60ft 50 % of the fun dragracing is meeting people who will give you the shirt off their back to wipe the grease off your hands. Welcome to M&M Jerry There are a couple of things that came to mind when I read your post. First, you could swap your stock fan for an electric fan, this would free up 10-15 hp. There is a good article on fordmuscle.com about making such a swap. Second, you could swap your stock exhaust out for a set of headers, that would be a fairly easy and economical way to gain 15 or so horses. Keep your eyes open for a set of GT-40 heads from an explorer or even some aluminum heads. I'm sure there are some fellows here that can give you some other ideas. Good luck with your car.Barry

Thanks for the welcome and advice; keep it coming. I neglected to say I already have a Cobra intake with a 600? Edelbrock 4v carb. on it. I made a trade for this intake, carb.,oval Cobra breather, and Cobra valve covers for my stockers and 2v even trade. Jerry

Hi and welcome. I am not the most knowledgeable but here are a few ideas:You already have the intake and carb covered. Great deal by the way! as already mentioned get rid of the stock fan and get a electric fan. A flex fan is better than the stock one and is inexpensive. Headers are a great bang for the buck and almost always someone here will have a set for sale. Add a h-pipe or a x-pipe. Add the electronic ignition, may not add more power but the car will run much better. another bolt on is underpullies. Not everyone likes them. DIY Ram AIR is cool as well. just some ideas to play with. Enjoy and see you around. Richard.

Hey Jerry, welcome to M&M.You've mentioned that you have a 600 cfm carb and cobra intake. With headers and all something you may want to look at is a slightly hotter cam shaft than the original 2V. I would think that will help with the breathing - the engine, not you. ------------------ SkinnyMan Tupelo, MS Thank you, Thank you very much!

Thanks Skinny Man, do you have a suggestion as to which cam I should get? I want something that sounds good as well as helps the power.
