Here are my thoughts on an exhaust system for my '70 Mach1. I'm VERY open to suggestions:The Car: '70 Mach1. 351C, 2v heads, Edelbrock Performer w/Holley, DynoMax headers... 381HP/415Lb.Ft. at crank (dynoed). 3.50-1 Traklok and a FMX. I'm thinking about DynoMax Super-Turbos with the 2-1/2" FlowMaster tailpipes (2-1/2" pipes, with crossover, fabbed from header to muffler inlet). Does anyone know part numbers so that I can get the right mufflers/tailpipes on the first try? Would I be better off with 2-1/4" pipes since it isn't that radical?

There are several ways to do this...1) Get the Flowmaster kit, #17273, about $320 from Summit or Jegs. Comes with two chambers, but also comes with the tailpipes, all the clamps and hangers, as well as a beautiful mandrel bent H-pipe. Their application guide says 64-66, but I've installed one on a 73 cougar and we still had to trim the pipes as they leave extra on the ends. 2) Get a set of the tailpipes from Flowmaster (15807) and the dynomax's (17733)which is a little smaller that the flowmaster muffler, but will work just fine. All early Mustangs have to have an offset inlet / center outlet muffler to fit properly. You will then have to fab your h-pipe, and figure your own hangers. Personbally, I'd get the kit and either run the Flowmasters or sell them and get your preferred Dynomax's. http://www.dynomax.com/documents/super_turbo_specs.pdf

That's a great idea... I'll be sure to claim it as my own! (kidding!) I don't have a problem with Flowmasters (they're on my truck), I just want a little calmer sound from the Mustang.

Just visited the Flowmaster site and the delta flow 40's are quite a bit quieter than the regulare 40's. They may not be too loud for you.
