LOLI was wondering cause my best friend and I are both service advisors for a riceburner dealership. I've started really paying attention to the guys that know nothing about cars and they seem "scared" when I can explain what is happening and they have no clue. Also, it seems in the dating world, that I have a lot of questions about what I do for a living. When I tell guys I've made my hobby my job they just give me a strange look like "grrls are supposed to like cars". ------------------ M&M #4087 http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/mug_GreenEyedGal.jpg

I think it's much the same as in any field of endeavor....there will always be the type of men who feel intimidated by women who know more than they do. And the ridiculous 'macho' types who will try to belittle and criticize women who are superior to them. Then there are those of us guys who truly appreciate and respect beautiful women with the intelligence and talents to match their looks.

I think it all depends on the guy honestly. My girlfriend at the moment is a social work major w/ a minor in spanish and was planning on being an Algebra teacher until Social Work fell in her lap. One of the smartest people I've ever known. And she talks circles around me all day long about a lot of things. And a couple of her previous relationships didn't last because she knew things they didn't. And when she met me and realized that I dug cars.. she started researching them. She could care less that she knew nothing about them, she was going to find out! Next thing you know, I'm getting asked questions like "whats a spool?" "what ratio are your rocker arms?" "And will you buy me a 32 Ford???!?!"I think its a matter of confidence is all. The people that can BS about anything even if they dont know about 'em.. are sometimes the most confident.. but then you also fall into the arrogant category as well in some cases.

someone once asked why we are "GRRLS" and not "girls"..... here is a very important life lesson.... ************************************ WHY GRRLS? GRRLS is an ATTITUDE and embraces everything with passion and gusto.... GRRLS know what they like and how to say so.... GRRLS like to touch before you "have to ask" .... she knows what YOU like as much as what SHE likes.... and.... she really truly likes to do the things YOU like.... a touch from a GRRL can melt you down into mass of wonderment ... marvelling ..."how does she do that..." a GRRL will speak her mind and will never settle for anything less than what she wants.... a GRRL also knows how to make sacrifices so that she can get what she wants.... a GRRL is independant and headstrong but tender and loving..... a GRRL is a female without all the whiney clingy dependant indesiveness stereotypically associated with "girls".... if we wear lace .... its to bed.... with the intention of not keeping it on very long if we need an oil change, we do it ourselves ..... we can open our own jars... we own power tools .....AND know how to use them... we become delicate tigers when it comes to the boys we have hearts for..... our fierce loyalty is one of many admirable traits.... we live each day knowing we will never have the opportunity to experience it again.... we feel intense pleasure when we give what we know is wanted and needed by the ones we love..... and we love until we are exhausted.... we are a unique breed not many in number but those of us who truly "are" ...."are" with a heartfelt dedication and passion..... with more spirit and spunk than most people even dare dream of having ..... kk
and yes, "boy" is a term of affection and endearment when it is from a GRRL.... cause we know you are really all-man... yet playful and sexy enough to attract the attention of a GRRL.....

Sigh...why didn't I read these rules 15 years ago while looking for a real grrl? Oh well, my daughter is turning out to be a grrl. She is half the size of her brother and thinks nothing of starting a fistfight with him. Put her in a go kart last month and she smiled the whole time. She LOVES to ride in the 'stang with the top down. There is hope of living with a grrl under my roof yet!

I just watched 'My Cousin Vinny' again. The part where Vinny and Lisa are in the motel talking about the leakiy faucet and Vinny wants to know if she turned it off all the way:Mona Lisa: If you will look in the manual, you will see that this particular model faucet requires a range of 10-16 foot pounds of torque. I routinely twist the maximum allowable torquage. Vinny: How can you be sure you used 16 foot pounds of torque? Mona Lisa: Because I used a Craftsman model 1019 Laboratory edition, signature series torque wrench. The kind used by Cal Tech High Energy physicists, and NASA engineers. And then there's the court scene at the end: "...the 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air was not availible with the 327 engine..." What a HUGE turn-on. ------------------ '73 Convertible, 351C 2V '91 LX Convertible 5.0 Member: Valley Forge Mustang Club

The chick in My Cousin Vinny is a huge turn on anyways. Knowing a 63 Tempest doesn't come with a posi helps reinforce that.I dont conciously have any "non-gearhead guy friends". I do work for a guy that actually runs a shop and still knows very little about any mechanical things. Does the fact he drives only classic cars, owns several and runs a shop specializing in them still make him a gearhead? His missus is certainly not awful to look at, he'll ask me some elementary question about cars like "how does this work"" (pointing at a driveshaft) and he'll then relay that newfound information to her getting it maybe half right. And it's him that gets to boink her! [This message has been edited by TomP (edited 10-21-2004).]

I've never met a gearhead Grrrl. In fact I've never met a woman who knew ANYTHING about cars or anything mechanical at all. That's pretty poor going in 48 years, right? As for men, I've found the following to be true. Out of 100 men: 1) One knows about cars. 2) 98 want you to believe they know about cars, and pray that you don't ask them a question. 3) One will admit to having no knowledge or interest.

Well Im from Texas and I can tell you one thing. I "LOVE" women who know about cars and drag racing. Someday I hope to marry one myself. If you own a hot rod they pretty much know what you want or need for christmas or birthdays, they dont mind you hanging out in the garage drinking a few cold ones, better there than down at the bar, and if your realy lucky she might know how to run the valves on a roller cam, set backlash on a 9 inch rear end gear set, change the dial in becuase the bp changed at the track, you tell her you found a set of heads that flow 268 at .4 lift on the intake and she says "you bought them right" Ah yes a good woman! gotta love"m David

My first ever post in the grrls forum! Thanks to Simon luring me over here. Imagine if you will the world of a fighter pilot, almost exclusively white men who are full of themselves and like nothing more than to obnoxiously drink, cuss, fight (I myself am getting knee surgery after wrestling with a Major at the O'club in Hawaii-and losing , but thats another story), carouse, and otherwise have fun and always be at the center of attention. Then introduce the female fighter pilot into a squadron of 18 or so male pilots. Uh-oh. Its a "show stopper." Steriotypically they are only there because of the fact that they are a woman and got a few breaks in flight school that a normal guy wouldn't have gotten, and now all the guys have to watch their mouth so as not to offend her. Yep, sad but often true. However, what happens when the female happens to be s**t hot? Actually does kick some a*s and proves her worth and that she really does know her stuff and earned her place among the guys legitimately. Wow. Total respect from everybody and never a sly comment from anybody. A girl I went through flight school with was always at the top of the class, was a great pilot and good looking too. She's already been to Top Gun, is currently an instructor at the weapons school and will soon go back to be an training officer (usually given to the best pilot in the squadron). She's one girl who truly rules owns any room or plane she's in and everybody knows it. Intimidating? Nope, she's just one of the guys, except better looking. That's about it for my experience with women who might be intimidating. Haven't really ever had a deep conversation with a girl about cars.

first post here too. I was lured over here by reading about the little "ahem" maturity issue.Anyway I think the root of this is that some people (men and women) are simply intimidated or upset by anyone who knows there stuff. You happen to be in a mostly male world, so when you have a little rub it most liklely occurs to you that its a gender thing. It may just be that they are jerks. Im a young guy (27) and have to manage a lot of older grey haired men with many years of experience at life. Most are great and we get on well but some are just jerks. Now If I was a woman I might imagine some sort of gender problem that wasnt there. I think this works both ways - and I know that in many cases there is gender problems, but for me the way to handle it is the same. I ignor what i cant change, some people are just jerks and no amount of pulling rabbits out of hats will impress them or earn their respect - the trick is to know that you dont need their respect. You seem like a confident person so youll do fine, just dont let them get you down. You dont need the approval of a handful of ricer jerks to know you are doing a good job. Chin up and keep a stiff upper lip! Then if that doesnt work cut the brake lines on their stupid car (J/K) ------------------ '68 coupe, '66 289 C code engine, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm
