Ok, so Alex and I were watching tv in the hotel room last weekend before we went to the track and they were talking about a big "Breast Feeding Awareness" march they had in (surprise, surprise) Berlkey California. Thousands of mommies and babies gathered in a theater and breastfed their babies in public. I am all for freedom and liberty, but we both decided that it's just the modest thing to do to find a more private place to feed.WELL . . . we go to that car show on Tues. night, this family that owns a '66 Fastback comes up and starts talking to us. The mom has the baby cradled in her arms as we are talking, then all of a sudden, she flips up her shirt, pops out her breast and starts feeding her baby. Even though I am a woman who plans to breastfeed who believes it is very good and very natural, I was quite a bit uncomfortable. There were places with more privacy to go to and she didn't. What do you think? Am I out of line by feeling uncomfortable? Should she have sought some privacy? Just wanted to get some other Grrls' opinions. It applies here because it WAS at a car show . . . :-) ------------------ Beth "My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me." - Henry Ford (for Alex) My Homepage

Good question Beth. I breastfed both my boys.. Man do I wish I could have kept that set I had on the last one, but that is a different subject. OK, the first son I breastfed, I would leave the room, or if it was just me and ken, would cover the baby up with a blanket.. By the second time around, I was a little more open about it.. I would still try to cover him up, but that child refused to have anything on him. He would just push it right off. I would nurse in public but not "pull it out" in public. I think you have to be respectful of other people. It is a very natural thing, and I enjoyed the experience immensely. I think at a car show, she could have been a bit more discreet. I think it's ok to nurse in public if your breast isn't hanging out for the world to see. Shell

I got a heck of a show last year in the snack bar of the New England Aquarium in Boston. A lady at the table next to me just hauled one out and didn't even attempt to cover up. She even stared at me while I was eating my greasy burger. Reminded me of my early years at the farm... ------------------ All Fords since 1977!

I nursed both of mine, and yes....I believe you should find privacy for it! I'll never forget with my first one, we went to visit two couples who also had nursing babies. My husband stated that he wanted me to be sure and go off a room alone to nurse (which I would have done anyway). Well, the other two mothers were also nursing at the time....so all three of us ended up in the den with the door closed to nurse our babies. Low and behold, each one of the husbands walked in for some reason or another while we were nursing!! Men!! go figure! I totally feel like there are some places that are just absolutely inappropriate. The highest one on my list being church....yet, I've seen several young mothers nursing their babies during Mass....What's up with that anyway???? Then the other side of that arguement can be that there are not alway "breast feeding friendly" lounges (in the ladies rooms) for Mom's to nurse ~ Many times I couldn't find a suitable place and have to chose between going to the car, sitting on a dirty bathroom floor or just going home.....which would you chose????

So thats what those girls in the truck in Reno were doing? ... funny i don't recall seeing any babies with them. The menfolk gathered around seemed to be very uncomfortable indeed... clapping and shooting video and pictures. It was awkward.
