I was coming home from San Antonio ( i live in Austin). and i started to hear a ticking sound which became a banging sound very quickly... I knew the sound it was a rod knock... Last time i had one the rod came flying out of the block on a 302.. With no other choice i drove it all the way home bagging all the way..
A month later i pulled the engine and replaced it with a junk yard motor. That i got for a hell of a deal trans and all...
A week ago i wanted to se how bad the old SHO plant was so we put it on a stand and dropped the pan and windage tray off.. I did not have to look long for the # 1 rod had a great deal of play. we pulled the cap off and took a look ... It spun the bearing and i could not find the other half. but i put a mic on the crank and it only was .002 over stock ??? Wow tough engine..
I plan to pull the crank and have it cut and use over sized bearings ...
Any one need a used SHO motor???
