Hppy Thanksgiving everyone! I've been collecting parts to put together a 430 Lincoln for a little while now. I was reading back through the old MEL related postings here. Does anyone have any specs of the MEL drag engines used back in the day...the one that was 500ci...or the maximum overbore on these blocks? Would it be better to run a 462 crank or would it be better to offset grind the 430 crank? I'm looking for the 8x2 #1380 Weiand Drag Star intake too. Any leads appreciated![email protected] Rocky

Welcome to M&M ! FoMoCo's cheater "exhibition" motors were 486 cube strokers. Cranks (as Shelby's) were all made by Reath. You can find them at swap meets often.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Are you sure you are not referring to the 1962 experimental FE? -MEL ENGINE FORUM-

Those were 487 inch. (Really) Old FoMoCo well know stock-um-up-car racer Whitey Gerkin was from my area and I used to go by his shop a lot years ago. He raced Merc converts in the 50's in the NASCAR convertible class and he had a ton of 368 and 430 stuff laying around his shop. He must have had 5 or 6 Reath steel 368 3/4 stroker cranks under a work bench getting rusty. I would have never ntoiced them had they not had Reath stamped on them. He said that nobody wanted them after the FE's came out. He used to tell us that FoMoCo supplied all of the cheater stroker stuff along with "optional" camshafts and carbs to the teams. He said that NASCAR mostly only checked stuff on the big tracks like Daytona in the 50's so the rest was a free for all unless there was a protest filed. He told some great stories. It was like having our very own local Smokey. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
