I drove 3 64 Comets today.I felt like a 16 year old kid who's daddy owned a LM dealership in 1964. A Caliente hdt, a Caliente convert, and a six cylinder stick wagon.
The coupe and convert were both K code 289 4V V-8 cars with automatics. Not Hipo's because we all know that those cars were never built as RPO units.
(a little ball busting here folks)
As a matter of fact, since I have been working on 9 of these things for the last couple of weeks and the owner of them is probably the foremost authority on 64 Comets in the country I am now 100% convinced that a 289 Hipo was NEVER installed in any 64 Comet that was not destined to be a race car. This guy has 11 64 Comets now and 2 more he just bought. He has an entire den full of paper work and documents on these cars in cluding all the OEM service, parts and updated manuals. TSB's too! Oh yeah, he was also a line mechanic for Westgate LM from 1962-1982 so he got to see stuff new that I didn't. He is now disabled so he can no longer work on his cars, but hell...he has me to do it for him.

And I also, am so happy that you are happy. But the fact remains. The option was available (saw the tech bulletin). Now whether you want to concede the fact or not is unimportant. As at first your stance was absolutely no availablity and then it changes competition assembly only. Maybe all of those accelerated G Forces has caused a little damage in that head of yours... ------------------ I am looking for information concerning factory performance/aftermarket speed parts (1958/1960) used on the MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) (Also Thunderbird 59/60) Engine Series (383-410-430-462) produced from 1958 thru 1968. Yes. I saw a photo of the bulletin. The only problem is it is going to cost me money to have it scanned. ------------------ I am looking for information concerning factory performance/aftermarket speed parts (1958/1960) used on the MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) (Also Thunderbird 59/60) Engine Series (383-410-430-462) produced from 1958 thru 1968. There were actually several. Just that none were RPO cars. All were production line deviations. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
