Did any of you see the two tone green and white 56 Crown Vic that brought $85k on Thursday night? Factory 292 with a stick and a reported "correct" dealer installed Tr-Power. That was a new one on me as I never saw a factory Y block Tri-Power. I thought that Gary put up a story once about a 57 312 Merc that had a Tri-Power option, but that would be a year later. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! Haven't you never learned to say never when it comes to FORD assembly yet Bob? Correct Dealer Installed would be the service kit released by FORD via the Service Parts Division. The '56 FORD and MERC 2x4 kits were dealer installed. The '61 390/401HP TRIPOWER and Four Speed option was Dealer Installed. ------------------ I am looking for information concerning factory performance/aftermarket speed parts (1958/1960) used on the MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) (Also Thunderbird 59/60) Engine Series (383-410-430-462) produced from 1958 thru 1968. That "correct Tri Power" looked like an Edelbrock, Offy or Weiand intake... not a Ford one. I suppose the "dealer" (or guy who restored the car last fall and wanted to add some flash for extra cash) would have to document that. I know guy around here that tell those same "Factory" or "Dealer installed" tales yet everyone recalls the car beforehand when it was stock. Then again if somebody falls for it and pays an extra $20-30,000 for such a questionable option i need to be selling them a car. [This message has been edited by TomP (edited 01-30-2005).]

Hey, Tom, that "somebody" wouldn`t own a Orange GTE Cougar, would he? Or a 68 428 Galaxie?

There is a classic car dealer in Maine who has a real 312 dual quad car with a stick for $32k. And it's red and white. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! Wasn't the 312 with a McCulloch blower an option on the 57 T-Bird?I'm sure I saw that at some point. Makes sense as a counter to the fuel injected 283 in the 57 Vettes and BelAires. ------------------ 63 Falcon 377 Cleveland stroker Flying Toilet alchohol injection. 6.19 @ 110 MPH 1/8 mile 2002 Ranger FX4 daily driver 2000 F350 PSD Crew cab dually - Like commuting in a B52!! 98 US Cargo Phantom II 28'

In 57 you could pretty much order the body you wanted and select the engine you wanted from the option list. The blown 312 was available in the t-Bird and any other Ford body. You could get a street driveable 312 with one four, two fours, or a blower. I remember there were some race motor options as well but don't remember the details. The blown 312 was the fastest available, don't let anybody tell you ant Chevy was faster. John

Yeahm Cory, thats the GTE, you know, the one he claims was the only Cougar ever built by Shelby American (kinda funny, since by 68, Shelby America wasn`t even building Shelby Mustangs anymore!! I`m sure you have also seen the 68 Galaxie around the Vancouver area with the "factory installed" 428 CJ with 3 2 barrels and long branch 427 exhaust manifolds too, right? Seems that the GVRD water works has a leak of Fibber Oxide" leaching into Seymour watershed, eh?? ------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed [email protected] 1.32 60 foot 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA M/Stock 302 5speed.
