Anyone know?
I think the movie Heart Like a Wheel had a siztyish style crew cab in it.

Oh no Mike.
They were making them long before 1978.

Barry Poole of Sandy Elliot's Canadian Ford Drag Team had one in 1969-70.
I stood on it to watch at US 30 Drag Strip in 1970.

Did Ford start them in Canada before the US? I'm pretty sure they didn't start here until 1973. I can check my books tomorrow.

They (Ford)started them in the mid seventies, but there were companies who converted them to crew cabs before that. Usually for government/forest ranger use.

I have pics of a 67 or 68.

1969 is the first production year of Ford crew cabs. All previous years were custom.

I have seen elsewhere that the first year was 1966. The '65's had exterior hinges for the back doors and the Ford built '66's had hidden hinges.

I have seen 1956 (built in 1956) 4 door trucks, built by aftermarket builders for Ford. They went to forestry and railroad service.
