So what's up with the Starliner roof line? What was it called and how many did they make? Well, actually there were only 52 of these produced! It's a 63B which is the Deluxe Two Door Hardtop. The 63A is the Standard Two Door Hardtop of which there were 243. Total two door hardtop production was 295 (243+52) As far as what it's called, pretty simply Two Door Hardtop. All 60 Edsels say "Ranger" on the side except for the wagons. The powertrains were basically same as Ford. 223 6 cylinder, 292 2V, and 352 4V. There was no 352 2V in the Edsel. Trans were 2 speed Ford-O, 3 speed Cruise-O, 3 speed stick and 3 speed stick Overdrive. My first car was a 60 Starliner in 1966. I had looked for one on and off over the years. Never found the "right" one. When I found this one at Carlisle two years ago it was mine! Of course I couldn't leave it stock! Oh yeah, the Comet story........ If you look at the tail lights you'll see that they are the same on the Edsel and the Comet. The Comet was to be the "small" Edsel. But FoMoCo pulled the plug on the Edsel program. The Comet was a late intro for the 1960 model year. I don't know how accurate the story is but there is a legend that the Comet name was chosen because it had five letters and there were already a bunch of panels stamped out for E-D-S-E-L. And that's all I know about 60 Edsels.....

Knowing you Ray, you probably used some Edsel parts on your Mustang.

What a swoopy looking beast, i like this better than the 60 Ford. There is a Mercury and a Meteor version of the Starliner too. Anybody have a shot of all 4 types?

Key word here is "looks". You'll notice that that is a drawing/painting rather than a photograph. I saw an article long time ago where the advertising agencies would photograph cars and then cut and splices the photos to make them look "lower, wider, longer"..... Then they would give the "doctored" pics to the artists who would produce what you see here. This one isn't oo bad, but I've seen some, especially early 60s GM cars, like the Big Pontiacs that are just absolutely absurd!

Actually, the 57 thru 60 MERC was a style of it's own. They were larger than the FORD offering. With the demise of the EDSEL and the MEL Division (1960), MERC was brought back into the FORD camp and shared its' basic platfrom from there.------------------ I am looking for information concerning factory performance/aftermarket speed parts (1958/1960) used on the MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) (Also Thunderbird 59/60) Engine Series (383-410-430-462) produced from 1958 thru 1968.
