I just went down to an old car wrecking yard, in Woodinville Washington, which after over 40 years in business, is shutting down, & allowing it`s owner a well earned retirement. Most removed parts were sold to the company which bought the bussiness, However over 500 pre 70 cars are looking for new homes, either as projects, or for "organ donation". I picked up a rough, but still loaded with parts, 1959 Ford 2 door sedan for the princely sum of $100.00. The desirable 9" rearend, as well as most F sheetmetal, & the windshield are long gone, but many hard to find pieces still lurk within. They are mainly trying to move up remaining cars, most priced at $100-$200. US. Dozens of Fords, from late 30`s to about 1970. Tbirds,Lincolns,Galaxies, & 49-54 Fords, at least a dozen of each, as well as a few oddballs, 57`s, one other 59 (a 2dr. HT), 65 Falcon Sprint 2 dr HT, 61 Falcon, 62 or 63 Meteor "Woody" wagon, most with engines still in.At least 6 or 7 complete 390 4V`s, about the same of 68-70 429-460`s, many SB Fords from 63 up (aluminum water pump, oil filler in timing cover, 5 bolt bells)6 cylinders in 223,240,flathead versions, along with the 144-250 small car engines, Y blocks, lots of flathead V8`s, over 55! Model "A" 4 bangers, 462 Lincolns, unbelieveable.Even lots of brand X`s, from DeSoto to Pontiac, mostly from the 50`s& 60`s, but some late 30`s& 40`s too. The name is Vintage Auto Parts,

Now many of these cars have been there for 10 or more years, some are solid, some quite rusty, but for a hundred bucks or 2, pretty hard to go wrong. They are mainly trying to liquidate their car inventory, complete 390 4V, 429,or 460 engine with C6 & 9", nicely wrapped up in a old Galaxie, Tbird or Lincoln for a hun or 2, how can ya lose! Also, many flathead engines & pieces, lots of "banjo" rearends, 3 speed trans (many overdrives!)& wheels for sale too. Now, if I only had a few acres & some extra cash.............

So, Rory . . . I'm REALLY considering sending Alex out there for a good look-see and maybe a chance for him to find some good parts. Do you really think it's worth his while? We are talking about $500 out of pocket to get there, stay and drive.

What do you think the chances are of me finding a 9" that will fit a '70 stang? Do you know how much they are selling them for?

Kyle, I doubt that you would find a 9" for your car there. They never got into Mustangs, as the "Wild West Mustang Ranch" is less than a mile down the same road. Plus, they are only selling now, not any parts.
Beth, I relly don`t think it would do much except frustrate Alex to go there! Even if he did find something of interest, Western Washington is a long ways from Illinois! Plus, most, but not all cars are picked over for the more desirable pieces. Since many of these cars have been sitting outside in the often rainy Seattle area weather, most with missing/broken glass, or missing doors have rusty floors. Not a huge number of really solid cars worthy of being restored, mostly parts cars. For example, when I picked up my 59 Ford the other day, the sales reciept shows the car first being parked in the wrecking yard over 12 years ago, in early 91.Thats WAAAAY longer than most yards would keep a car in stock. It WAS neat to tour the place, since I`m only 3 hours away, but I couldn`t see flying in from 1/2 way across the country to check it out. I plan to visit a much larger "oldies" yard near Portland Oregon, when I attend the Portland Swap Meet in early spring. If you come to the Bellvue Wash. M&M meet, this summer, it may be neat to drive for 2 or 3 hours to see that yard.
