Will the Boss be back?

Is the Boss 302 Mustang about to reappear at a Ford dealer near you?

There are rumblings that Ford will reintroduce the Boss 302 Mustang, possibly next year. No firm plans are set, but sources say the car will use a 5.0-liter engine and styling cues from the originals built in 1969 and 1970. Initial reports show the engines may produce 320 horsepower. The originals used the high-winding 302-cu.in. V-8s with mechanical lifters, 290hp, 10.6:1 compression ratio and a huge Holley four-barrel. (Of course, the proposed car would have fuel injection.) This, of course, wouldnt be Fords first retro Stang. First there was the Bullitt, introduced in 2001, in response to the high interest in Steve McQueens cult film of the same name, filmed in 1968. Next came the Shelby GT 500 followed by the Shelby GT-H.

I don't see it happening. Why don't they retro some trucks if they want some more nostalgia, I would love an 07/08 50's style.

I just saw that in Hemmings e weekly,I would say a Boss 302 stang would get more attention then the shelby even.Especially if it had a real exotic engine like the first boss.

I hope they come up with something to help them, and quick! I just saw where they're phasing out some more jobs. Do you think they will come up with a different stlye than the 05's??? I hope they get it as close to the original as possible if they do, and don't embareass themselves, or the car.

No, the S197 chassis will be here for a while still.

They won't embarrass themselves, they've been batting 1000 with the new Mustang so far.

Personally, I would like to see a real 69/70 body transplanted to the S197 chassis, with the option of new style or old style interior choices. I also hope they don't just put the badges on the 05 style and say here ya go, it's a Boss. It has to be unique, or it's just another run of the mill Mustang with Boss decals, in my honest opinion.

It just won't do! Anybody with the measurements, and a graphics shop in their town, can be driving one of those TOMORROW. I hope they come up with something a lot more original than that.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to own one of the new Roush Mustangs, stock off the lot even. But when I look at my car parked next to the new cars, mine looks so much more like the Muscle car. They could have the means and material to make some changes to the current style, and come up with something special with this car. I hope it happens, can't wait to see what they are planning for the engine, but I bet it hauls azz. These are just my opinions on the subject, and if you don't agree, that's fine, we all have our own style.

I thought old was the only way to go for the longest time, maybe i'm just tired of the repairs and battling rust, I recently bought a 2002 Saleen 281SC with 13,000 miles and let me tell you i'm having the time of my life.I will never give away my babies but this new car sure has filled a void

Over on the Boss 302 board, they have been discussing this. From what the news they can find, it will be unique in that they will be planting an updated 302 cu. in. mill in it with most of the styling cues of the original. They also said it most likely would be a 2008 release.
If it happens, I'll be in line for one, as long as it isn't overpriced just for the sake of owning one (like a huge mark-up over the sticker)!!

I've asked this question so many times before, all over the place...and never seem to get any kind of answer. But I'll ask again...

How are they going to do this? Shinoda still makes the Boss packages for Mustangs, and sells them 3rd-party. Is Ford just going to buy up Shinoda or something? Granted, Shinoda's take on them is mostly just graphical, and some other appearance tweaks...but still. They've still got the Boss name going for the Mustang.

I just don't see it happening really. Carry on with more Shelby stuff until the facelift in '09 or '10 or whatever...then go from there.
