I just saw the 2007 Shelby Cobra GT 500 for sale on Ebay. It doesn't look much different than the Mustang which is a disappointment. I bid $5000 anyway  ------------------

the original Shelby Cobras did not look much different than regular Mustangs either. It was the engine, suspension and other mods that Shelby made that made the cars different.

Later in the Shelby mustang run, most of the differences were cosmetic....

$5000.00???
They are supposed to be out this fall at about $45K PLUS dealer mark-up...
Is somebody out there cloning them already???I'd be leary of buying one BEFORE they actually hit the dealerships.

The auctions on ebay aren't for the car, they are for the right to order the car. That $5000 or whatever it ends up as is above the cost of the car which will be around $45k.------------------

$5000 was the opening bid, it was $45K about 30 minutes later. (I bid $5K as a joke  , but willing to buy if I won ). Over $50K now. It was a dealership that had it for sale. On the 67-68 Shelby's you can spot the differences easily (hood scoop, Cougar tail lights, spoiler, wheels, hood pins). What's the visible difference on this 2007...two holes in the hood that you can't see. Forget Shelby, get a Rousch.

The front facia is different, the uprights between the headlights and grille lean in giving the front a snakelike appearance....and perhaps you didn't notice 5.4L 32V supercharged 475 horsepower engine and 6 speed tranny... ------------------

I have had a deposit down on one since last Sept. It will be late in the model year or perhaps one of the first 08 models before I get mine. Some things off the top of my head:
. 500 hp rating by Ford, 475 tq
. 5.4 4v Supercharged engine, engine is the essentially the same as the GT supercar except for the iron vs aluminum block and the GT's dry sump oil system. Engine is still hand built and valve cover is signed by the two engine builders. Engine has a forged steel crank, Mahle forged pistons and forged I beam rods.
. Tremec 6 speed, same trans as the Viper
. 14" Brembo front brakes, stock GT rear disks
. 18" wheels w Supercar tires
. front and rear facias have functional air splitter/diffuser that is designed and wind tunnel tested to provide 0 lift at 150 mph
. premium interior package provides leather on dash, door panel inserts and console arm rests, aluminum pedal covers, tach and speedo locations are swapped so the driver can see the tach easier.
. revised suspension and spring rates let it pull better skid pad #'s than the 300 lb lighter 03-04 Cobra Mustang.
. It is the only factory 500 hp car for under 60K and the only 4 seat 500 hp car for under $80K The first cars are built and are being delivered NOW. They are hitting the dealerships, but most dealers will on get one at first and SVT dealers will get 2-3, then the balance will be divided up nationwide based on national share of Mustang sales. Prices: Base coupe: $40850 + 1300 gas guzzler tax + 700 destination + premium interior + satellite radio = approx $44500 add $1500 for premium shaker 1000 stereo and add $4K for convertible. Mine will be w/o the shaker 100 as the shaker 500 is very good. The 1000 adds 2 more speakers, a subwoofer + amp in the trunk. It adds about 70 lbs and takes up 1/2 the trunk space. There are other things, but these are just some. David Cole
