I've seen many of the dealers putting that markup on the new Stangs. I'm glad our local dealer here isn't doing that. They didn't even mark up the T-birds when they came out!

Nope the sticker price is there just like normal but there is another piece of paper on the window that says "Market Adjustment" 3000 dollars and a new total for the GT at the bottom.IT Sucks, I tell you...

I wouldn't pay it. I'd buy a car from the other side of the country first. Then I'd bring it to them for any warranty work it would need.

A dealer might as well put up a big sign saying 'SLEAZEBAG' when they try to pull crap like that.

It's always amazing how many people will though. The "big 3" Ford dealerships around me are all charging $3k above MSRP. Amazingly all the GTs they've received are gone in short order. Can't blame the dealership for the stupidity of the masses.

I was at a dealer today joking with a salesman about the $3,000 markup on a GT and the $5,000 markup on the Saleen. I asked him where the markup was on the Focus in the lot. (he didn't think it was funny)

I just returned from the Ford dealer where my wife and I had been looking at the new Mustangs. Yep, $3000 surcharge on all GT's and they won't do A-plan on GT's either. They said they would offer A-plan price on the V-6 version though. Gee, how generous of them. They also told me there was a $100,000 surcharge on the Ford GT. They had one on the showroom floor and it had a $156K price tag and I was remarking on it and the dealer informed me that it would actually be $256K. In so many words, I told them they were smoking crack. That GT sure is an awesome looking car though. Oh, well, I guess we'll wait until all the newness wears off the Mustang before we'll consider dealing. I still can't get over these dealers attitudes. They don't deserve to sell ANY cars in my opinion.

The local dealer is adding $5000 for the GT's and $1000 for the V6.

I know it won't happen but boycotting dealers with surcharges would put a stop to this nonsense. We would love to have a new Mustang but I'm not playing these games even if it means waiting a year or two to get one.

This is a great post! I like the way you guys think. How could we infuse the mindset of this post into the publics logic? I guess there will always be people who want to be first no matter what the cost. Is it really that serious? Well, maybe it is when it comes to their Mustangs

I thought the dealers were nuts when I saw their markup plain as day on the sticker. I laughed since I'm the guy that starts at invoice and I don't think I've ever paid more than $500 over.

It was gone in 2 days. Fools and their money are soon parted....

The stickers I saw had it hand written on a sign on the sticker. The salesman tried to tell me it was just the dealership being "business savvy". Call it what you want but where I come from, it's called extremely greedy.
I really wanted to drive one but that surcharge business left a really bad taste in my mouth and I was suddenly not in the mood anymore.
Car dealer have worked hard to earn the dishonest reputation they have. I guess there's no reason to start changing now

If you look around enough you can find a dealer that doesn't play the surcharge game, since I started this post I found 2 near me that don't play that game.Unfortunatly the little dealership in my tiny town that I like to buy from plays the surcharge game and just like the gas station with the "bongs" for sale I told them they won't see me again until they get rid of the crap.

I searched for a dealer through AAA and not only they found a dealer without mark up (Drew Ford in San Diego), but arranged for a price $1000.00 below sticker. The catch? 6 months of waiting!!!
It is all worth it.

I got my V-6 on the Ford "X" plan but had to drive to a small town dealer 250 miles away.

I just bought a 2005 GT Conv yesterday and my dealer tried to put $1000 Market Adjustment on it. I talked them out of that $1000 but still paid MSRP.

I wouldn't pay more than 2% above dealer invoice for anything, then you still getting rip-off from 5% to 9% over Ford invoice.

Those sale people would be on food stamps before I bought one

I'm curious, whose insurance company gets called if you have a "fender bender" while on a test drive?

The sick twisted mean side of sig showing through...

I wanted to mention that when we bought Pam's Sable in July we could have had a number of Mustangs at or below list price. I guess not all dealers are gougers.
