Has anybody heard (or seen) what the Cobra will look like? And what it will be priced?I've heard it may be a year before it comes out. If money were no object and you really wanted a new Mustang, would you get a GT now or wait for the Cobra?

Nothing "official" has been released, but over on The Mustang Source, they've started a rumor mill as to what the next one will have, what it could look like, etc. Their "source" is apparently someone from within SVT.So far, the "source" has said the Cobra will have a supercharged 5.4L 4V engine putting out 465 horsepower. For my money, I'd be waiting for the Cobra. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '03 Mustang GT coupe '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good"

Powerplant wise, what I've heard is consistent with what Frank said. But there has been much talk about the Cobra becoming a two seat ride from the factory. Supposedly this has something to do with a new IRS design that doesn't allow for a rear seat, this is all just speculation however. I do hope the new IRS design is able to handle the power a little better, and is less prone to weel hop than the current 03/04 cobra setup. Apparently SVT is aiming this car to be more of a direct competitor with the new corvette Z06. The past 03/04 cobras were mustangs that just happened to have the power to run with the corvettes, so they were compared very much, and unjustly in my opinion, as the Cobra costed wayy less and wasn't designed to compete in the Corvettes class. But they have big plans for the new Cobra, and I feel this is a big part of the reason why they decided to delay the Lightning Project... they are putting all their eggs in one basket so to speak. If a supercharged 5.4 4V does get put into the new cobra, the power levels achieved from this engine will be off the charts. Guys are making 500 rwhp with the stock blower on the 03/04s, and 600rwhp and beyond with aftermarket twin screw and centrifugal setups, and this is only with 4.6 liters. I can't even imagine the power output with an additional 50 cubes. Guys will be in the 600 rwhp range with a pulley swap... I can't wait Paul ------------------ 1970 Grande H code 351W FMX 1998 SVT Mustang Cobra Bright Atlantic Blue http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/grandestang.html

Are we talking a price tag in the Corvette range, then?

No not corvette price range, but it will probably be slightly more than the current cobra. I'd expect 40k as opposed to the 35k for the 03/04s Paul

'03/'04 stangs stickered for like $39k didn't they?I agree though, they should still be right around the $40k mark. Little less than the base vette would be my guess. Of course, once the popularity dies down a tad, you'll be able to deal on them as always. Right now dealers are getting $2-$5k over sticker. Wait six months, you'll get them for $500 over invoice or less. You just have to wait til those with thick wallets get out of the way.

I saw the '07 Shelby Cobra Stang at the NY Auto Show earlier this week. They said production would be 8500 to 15000 units and price would be $45 to $60K. I guess Shelby has to get his $ out of it. Also, was told that production may have a rollbar. Don't know if those 19" wheels are standard on the Cobra or options. Could it be base price of 45k with options taking it to 60K? Will just have to wait and see.

the new Cobra Stangs are officially the Ford Shelby Cobra GT500. The engine is the 5.4L supercharged V-8. This won't be the same engine as in the Ford GT, so don't get it teisted. The one in the Shelby is an iron block w/ an Eaton blower, whereas the one in the GT is an aluminum block w/a Lysholm screw-type.
