Well, the LA Auto Show started this weekend. I haven't made it up there yet, but I will next weekend. Check out the official pics of the Mustang concepts for '05.

http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/News/pics05c/index.htm

There is still something about the convertible that doesn't sit right with me, but that fastback - man! If the production vehicle looks as good as that I'll be trading in my '98 GT convertible come 2004/05. I can just see it in my driveway now, parked next to the '70 Mach I. What a sight!

More pics and a video on MSN:

I agree! The FB is awesome. You can have the vert though.

Bill Ford says he wants the production version to look the same as the ones in the pics. We'll have to wait and see what the beancounters say.

I would sale my soul to own the fastback!!

The front looks like a 68 GT500KR, the roof looks like 65-66 FB, and the rear looks like 67-70 Shelby.

I think they got carried away with the tail lights. I like the gas cap and hope it stays and that they make it say GT for the GTs and have a Cobra on it for the Cobras like they did back in the day. That would be awesome.

I also hope the interior changes quite a bit. I'm not pleased with it. I'm fairly confident that it will change radically on a production vehicle. I don't mind the brushed aluminum, but the red is way overdone.

Restofuturistic indeed!

interior is ugly. too much red! hopefully they offer different color tones. and those tail lights are too big, for my taste anyway. all in all, i give it a 7/10.

I like both concepts in general but some items are not my style or practical.

a. seating is too racy and doesn't look very comfortable.
b. tail lights look too Cougar/Shelby and be smaller leaving more sheet metal in between; say 2/3 the current size. Lens height is okay but should have three division bars. I know this is passe but its also Mustang!
c. the tire in the back seat area of the coupe is highly impractical - I need the space for cargo and would much rather have the rear fold down seat arrangement.
d. I don't like the bridged marker lights in front - too Chrysler/Ricer looking.
e. too much wheel and not enough rubber (I dislike the current cartwheel look).

I've gotta chime in on how fantastic I think those concepts are. WOW. I don't want anything changed. I like the taillights, but I've seen other drawings showing more traditional Mustang-style taillights that look good also (these concepts are definately Shelby-intensive, hence the taillight treatment). The wheels and tires are perfect, 60-series baloneys only look right on my old stuff. And too much red????? Anybody popped their head inside a '65 red standard interior lately? I love a red interior, as bright and bold as possible, just like they were in the 50's and 60's. Besides, I'm sure they'll have charcoal and saddle for more conservative tastes. I say push the envelope hard for the production car, just like the concept. It'll make a bigger splash, the car will be more of a revolution, just like the original car was a revolution. The way it sits now, GM and Mopar and import fans will all be dropping their jaws and clammering to the Ford dealerships to get their hands on one. Total home run.

I like the tail end and the interior, but I can't stand the front clip. It looks like they took a 67 and Fisher-Price made a toy of it. "No edges or sharp line to hurt the little tikes." The other thing that caught my eye is the engine bay drawing. Talk about tight. Now the 2005 Mach III concept I saw to today was easier on the eyes.

Anyone seen this before? Is that a kit or something? http://autothing.com/funthings/funthings-futuremustangRealConcept1.htm

You guys haven't seen that yet? I've been looking at those for months now, my dad's company designs the boothes for auto shows so I know a few high-ups at Ford, and I've seen these in the designs before.

I really like the new design but I still think the car is too thick and heavy looking. I prefer a leaner, thinner look.
Just look at the distance between the top and bottom of the door...it's huge !

I'm really curious to see what the price tag is going to be.
