Oh hell yeah! The rear still isn't quite right, but it isn't as bad because this one is the coupe, and not the 'vert. Especially when ya take into account whole shape of the rear decklid area of the coupe. And that front end! Woooo hoooooo, WOODY time! A ton more pictures can be seen here at http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/News/pics05c/index.htm Yep...I think Ford has hit one outta the ballpark here! Stewart

At this website, http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=5620&sid=175&n=156 there is a writeup with a few pictures. Let's hope the following excerpt from the above website is true:How close are the show cars to what will actually hit the street in 2004? Close, but those who?ve seen the final designs say they?re actually more impressed with the production vehicles. The taillights, for one thing, will be more true to the original design. So maybe it CAN get better! Stewart [This message has been edited by Stewart (edited 01-06-2003).]

No worries...I'm kinda with ya. I like the overall idea, just certain things don't seem right. It looks too bulky overall, and a Mustang "rollin' on dubs"?? Nah. Oh, and the proposed 400 horsepower supercharged GT just seems way too unrealistic. I don't think they'd be able to price a car like that under $30K. I also thought the front was very Aston Martin. Very sexy. It does look a little bit Japanese though. Maybe the next Bond car. Hmmm Im trying to imagine this thing being affordable, but can see the V6 model starting at about 22k. Ford doesnt have much competition for this car to keep the V6 at 17-18k.

I like it!! As others have said, the tail light treatment has to be redone to mimic the originals a bit better, but overall I like the shape and the retro cues. Nice work!! The interior does still need to be reworked a bit too, to get that "dual cockpit" feeling of the classics. Now, here's my only real concern with this newest version of the Mustang... cost. What are the chances that this latest version is going to be affordable to the average-Joe in anything but the V6 version (I assume a V6 will still be offered)? I see what they did with the T-bird, and I'm worried that Ford is going to go the same way with the Mustang. With no Camaro out there as competition, Ford has less competitive pressures to keep the price down in the realm of afforability. The market demand for the retro stuff is quite strong, and could allow Ford to make the Mustang another upscale, limited production, high $$ retro-flagship to park beside the T-Bird. I hope that this isn't what will happen, but the possibility is there, and it makes me nervous. Just look at the jump in prices of cars over the last 10 years alone. In 1992 you could buy a brand new Mustang LX 5.0 with air, cruise and power windows/seats for around $13,000 (I was just reading a 1992 Car & Driver from my collection that had a comparison that inluded the 5.0 LX, which won the "Bang for the Buck" shootout). A GT would set you back only a couple of thousand more. Now, a GT (no LX even available) starts at $24,110, the Mach I at $28,995 and the Cobra at $38,265. I don't know about you folks, but I haven't seen the average salary doubling in the last 10 years. Don't even get me started on the trucks these days... leather in a truck?? We used to laugh at the idiots that got CARPET in their trucks, let alone LEATHER interiors. All in the name of jacking up the prices and profit margins to the point that you need a damn 2nd mortgage to afford a bloody work vehicle. I'm getting mad now... I need to go have a coffee and settle down. What was the original topic here?

You know you are welcome to our toy box any time. There will be one of those nice little ponies in our Pony Palace in 2005. It will be Mike's fiftieth Birthday April 18. One day after the Mustang birthday. I think he deserves a nice red "mid-life crisis" convertible - hopefully in the Cobra version! That's the plan - but only if they change those tail lights! J.

Looks great to me. Of course I see a lot of Shelby insperation in it. Which is probably just me. Stewart, More than likely the glass roof is strickly concept. That way people can see the interior features easily. Ford did the same glass top with the 49er concept car. Steve, I like the rear treatment. The pop open gas cap, the duals comming straight out the back and the '68 Shelby/GT/CS/Cougar/T-bird style lights. Now put a LOW PROFILE rear spoiler on it and we can have a lot of fun with it. Well, for those that say it's Aston Martin inspired, remember, AM is part of Ford Motor Company. I'm not too fond of the new pony graphic either. Just stick with the traditional emblem. It got changed for the Mustang IIs, and didn't get changed back till the early '80s. The taillights do need to be scaled down. Maybe the traditional smaller tri-bars, like a mix between the current ones and the classics. I do love that front end more. I think it needs some work somewhere, but I can't exactly put my finger on it. The interior...no. It doesn't look comfortable at all. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good" '76 Cobra--project

I agree. If they're styled after GT/CS, Cougar, and Shelby, they have a 300ZX-ish look to me. Maybe it's just that new styles take time to grow in me... the curent style didn't do much for me at first, but I think they're killer now ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

I'm still deciding. I would never dream of kicking one of these out of my garage, but if I were asked to be a part of the design team, there are definitely a few things I would change: 1. Tail lights look too much like a ricer. 2. HATE the wheels. 3. I'm with Steve on the gas cap design. No need to update a timeless classic like the Mustang logo. I do like the silhouette of the fastback in the new design. Like Ian, I am interested to see pricing they expect to get out of this. Hope they aren't too greedy. Hey Stewart....When I was a teenager and sketching custom ideas for 71-73 Mustangs, I came up with some Star Trek tail lights. Like the belt buckle from the Wrath of Khan uniforms. The stop light part was red and was the stylized arrowhead. The back-up light was the star within the arrowhead and was white/clear. And the turn signal was the ring around the outside of the arrowhead and was amber. I think that would be an interesting design for a tail light. As long as tail lights are fully functional and their looks are not too distracting, who says they have to be very basic and plain? What about the idea of sequential tail lights for the new Mustang....with maybe a pony running from center to left and center to right. Would that be 'too much'? Garish? Tacky? Just a thought.... I assumed that was part of the lens covering the headlight not a painted or insert piece. Guess I'll have to look at the pictures closer... Generally I like it and it seems to have lots of pluses...most everyone seems to like it. Chances are ground clearance won't be so low in production, won't be so glass, interior won't be similarly appointed, etc.

I really like the front but I would make one change. The profile view shows that the bumper and valance are flush at the front. I like the valance pulled back a bit in relation to the bumper, like the older versions, especially the 69 and 70. I can't make up my mind about the rear. Less tail light area maybe. Don't get me wrong, I think the car looks great except for one thing.....it just looks too "thick". I don't know how else to describe it. I look at the distance between the top of the door and top of the fender to the bottom of the car and it just looks too thick and fat !! Maybe it's just me. I also hope they don't make it too high in the back. Ford has a tendency to ruin a car by jacking the rear end way up in the air.
